Fiyero just left the Wizard's guard to be with Elphaba, which is the entire reason he became the Scarecrow (because the other guards were going to kill him probably). He's on Elphaba's side and knows that the things people say about her are wrong.
So, if things go as they went in The Wizard of Oz, why did he go with Dorothy and help her to meet the Wizard and potentially go along with the witch hunting? (granted, he's not on stage for March of the Witch Hunters, but neither is Dorothy, and she's the reason its happening)

One thing I (33M) noticed about Wicked... why would Fiyero help Dorothy defeat Elphaba? If this plot runs in conjunction with the events of the 'Wizard of Oz,' the scarecrow plays a large role in trying to destroy the witch, and the witch even sets him on fire.
The only thing I can think of is that when Elphaba cast the spell to remove the Scarecrow's brain, it erased Fiyero's memory of her, and when he got his brain from the Wizard, it then made him remember.
Am I overthinking this? Please let me know.
This has probably been covered before, forgive me I only just saw Wicked last night (loved it.)
All of the WoZ tie-ins were cute and got good laughs from everyone and I can buy all of them except for Fiyero the Scarecrow.
A.) Nessarose is used as bait by dropping Dorothy’s house on her.
B.) We the audience, watch Glinda send Dorothy on her way down the road (to meet the scarecrow)
C.) Elphaba confronts Glinda, Fiyero fights for and frees Elphaba, Fiyero is captured and turned into the scarecrow.
Either
1.) The soldiers have to carry Fiyero PASSED Dorothy on the road and post him up for her to find.
2.) The yellow brick road takes a long looping giant hairpin turn immediately before doubling back near the Munchkin village where the soldiers post him up.
Is there a better explanation other than just shrugging our collective shoulders?
I'm a fan of the musical and have just watched WFG - and taking account into the mixed reviews, I think Dorothy should have been essential and this movie should have been Wizard of Oz remake, with the Wicked characterisations.
!By sidestepping Dorothy, we sidestepped-
Fiyero's whole deal as the Scarecrow - why he was willing to go with Dorothy's group (did he iose memories or was a double agent) and when did he manage to cook up the escape plan with Elphaba.
While the Wicked production team says that this should not be Dorothy's story, Dorothy could represent an outsider POV on the propoganda against Elphaba - someone who has no context and initially buys into the propoganda , but through direct interactions with Elphaba can choose to accept or reject the propoganda. She could come to see Elphaba as someone more nuanced than wicked, but accidentally throws the water on her anyway which triggers the escape plan. Dorothy can and should support Elphaba's story.
The most important of all - Elphaba's motivation in being wicked, as fueled by her grief. By removing an alternate version of Elphaba, Glinda and Dorothy's first meeting on the Yellow Brick Road, we missed an opportunity to further develop Elphaba's character re: her grief over Nessa, her motivation in retrieving the shoes from Dorothy. I also think a 'what have I done' moment in an Elphaba x Dorothy scene where Elphaba realizes she has let her rage got the better of her and harmed a child would have been useful to flesh out her decision to leave Oz for good, and to have Glinda continue the good work - because she believes by staying she can only be nothing but wicked. As it is, we don't see any wicked moments from Elphaba after No Good Deed, making things very rushed, and audiences questioning why Elphaba just seemingly gave up to be with a man.
The decisions Jon Chu made with not including Dorothy is a safe one but not the best one storytelling wise. And I know as musical fans we have answers to the plot holes and questions raised by the general audience - if we have so many audiences wondering about these plot holes I don't think the movie did its job in making this adaptation stand on its own.
