r/UPS on Reddit: $6 to hold the package for pick up?
March 31, 2025 -

Is this new?

UPS is notoriously bad in my area for seeing an apartment building, going “nah” and updating the tracking to “needs additional info” for building entry (the lobby is open)

Usually when that happened they’d just ask me to pick it up at the store the next day, but lately they’ve been saying they’ll try again, and if that doesn’t work, return it to sender. I have to log in and request the pick up, and it’s $5.99

It was always annoying to tack on an extra day of shipping for when they do that, but now charging extra for that is crazy

Even “releasing” the package and asking them to leave it outside still results in the “needs additional info” and a threat to return to sender

I have a signature required package from Lenovo thru UPS that the delivery date was originally going to be Friday (which was good because I would have been home all day) but it recently moved to a delivery date of Tuesday, which is going to be annoying because I work that day.

One of the emails that I got from Lenovo did state this “If you are unavailable to receive your delivery your order will be returned and processed you will for a refund.” which has leaved me worried that if I am unable to get it on the day of delivery that it will be sent back immediately and I won’t be able to go and pick it up.

I tried to signup for mychoice for trying to do a signature release but it says signature release is unavailable for this item. I do have some parents that live with me, would they be able to sign in my stead for this package or do I have to be there?

Also, the most important thing, if UPS is unable to deliver the package that day due to them not being home too, does UPS hold a package for X number of days for my to come by a local UPS Store and pick it up, or will it get immediately returned to the sender and I’m SOL if I’m not there that exact one time?

r/UPS on Reddit: My packages are randomly held at UPS, and nobody can tell me why.
September 25, 2018 -

Greetings,

My wife had ordered a jean jacket from QVC, total value is probably around $100 or so. The package was originally shipped "Smartpost", where UPS delivers it to USPS and then the USPS delivers to our house. We pay for the UPS MyChoice service which allows packages to be upgraded to regular UPS delivery, and the package tracking information shows this happened.

The problem I am running into is that this particular packages, and then some other random packages (so far, I think they've all been shipped from QVC) end up being marked as "Held For Future Delivery Requested" at the local UPS facility and never delivered to me. If I don't catch the fact that the package was held, UPS eventually returns it to the shipper. Of course, I've never gone in and requested a hold at local facility, and I have no idea how this is happening. My wife called UPS and they said they "initiated the hold" but could not tell her why.

Has anyone ever run into anything like this? I 'm not sure why or how this could be happening. And calling UPS seems to be totally worthless because nobody there can tell me anything either.

Thanks for any help you could offer or suggestions you might have.

Hi,

My partner ordered an engraved Apple Pen via the Apple Store. It requires a signature and we cannot change it by any mechanism we've found (called UPS, Apple Store)

The delivery was marked as attempted and missed at 4PM. I was home all day, they did not ring the doorbell. After it was marked undelivered I went down and looked for the delivery attempt slip and there was none. This is when my partner tried and failed to change the delivery requirements (no sig needed, or hold it at UPS for pickup)

He comes home at 6:30PM and finds a delivery slip, initially thinks I am a fool, but then he sees the time on the slip is 5:43PM

So what do I do today??? It feels like my only option is to bundle up in a parka and sit on the stoop from 4PM - 6PM?! Which seems absurd for a luxury item!

I have my UPS account setup to redirect all packages to my local UPS store for pickup. I checked my latest delivery and it no longer shows it will hold my package at my local UPS store. I just get a button to upgrade to UPS ground. When I click the button it wants $13 to hold at local UPS access point or pay $20 a year to upgrade to UPS my choice premium plus membership. Is this is a bug or a new charge going forward?

So apparently UPS is now horrible in my area. For years my UPS guy would sign for things if needed and leave packages, but they either changed people or they cracked down and now I have issue when I can't sign because I'm at work. My local UPS WILL NOT deliver on Saturdays, they just don't in my area, so it's M-F only during business hours which ofcourse means no one it home because we work. The biggest problem is that the "hub" serving my area doesn't offer any customer pickup and wont hold anything, nor can I direct packages elsewhere. So basically anything shipped via UPS (& any retailers using UPS) to my address will never get delivered. I've called, can called, and it's like dealing with the IRS... I'm sure I'm not the only one. Why doesn't UPS hold packages anymore at the hub?

I ordered something that requires a signature upon delivery. Ive done this many times before. I work, and am not home when they attempt delivery. In the past, they attempt delivery of signature-required items, fail to, then leave a note explaining when to come pick it up from the distribution hub.

Not so this time. Now Im informed theyll try delivery again on monday, which also wont work as I wont be home... I also have the option of picking it up at some unspecified time, for an aditional fee. This has never happened before. Frankly Im pissed; I already paid for shipping, now they are refusing to deliver it or make it available unless I pay even more.

Its illegal, its ridiculous, and UPS should be ashamed.

r/UPS on Reddit: Question about ups store holding
3 weeks ago - The UPS store near me rents mailboxes like the post office. If you rent a mailbox from them, you can ship almost anything to your box and they will hold it for you. If you don't rent a box, the package has to be shipped via UPS for them to hold it.

I order live bugs for my pet spider and since temps are fluctuating to freezing where I’m at I marked it as “hold for pickup” just in case, so they wouldnt freeze and die. Today I got the notification it was delivered, but they just listed the city name it was delivered to; didn’t provide a specific address or store number to pick it up at. It says ‘Joni’ received it, which I’m guessing is a store employee? Bc it’s not me. They didn’t provide a picture in delivery confirmation so I have zero clues to location, or if it even got to a store in the first place. There’s multiple UPS locations in my city and I’ve tried calling around, only one has answered and they didn’t see anything about it. I’ve put in a claim to hopefully get more info, but I’d be very grateful for advice for navigating this.

Hi everyone I had a package sent out to me using next day air on Friday and it made it processing at ups facility (in the facility near me) by Saturday morning. Saturday afternoon i changed it to pick up at ups location hoping i can pick it up monday( today) since i wont be home when it arrives. This morning i find a loaded on delivery vehicle completely ignoring the pending request before. It is expected to be delivered today and usually trucks go out for delivery in an hour or 2 should i expect it to be delivered to my house or will the driver scan it find the request take it back and deliver it to the location tomorrow?

r/UPS on Reddit: UPS has been holding a package I sent for over a month not wanting to deliver it. What should I do??

I sent very important documents from the US using UPS express international. About 5 days or so later it shows out for delivery, but then when I check a few days later it shows that it was in the warehouse awaiting clearance or resolution and that delivery would be rescheduled.

The receiver then contacts me asking if i restricted its delivery and i tell them no... because i didn't. The receiver tells me that UPS is refusing to hand over or deliver the package to anyone but the name on it.

I contact UPS to see whats going on and they tell me that they see on their end that the receiver wasn't there and that they will reattempt delivery and to give it a couple of days. I confirm if it is restricted delivery and they say no.

A few days pass and I see there is no movement; still shows at warehouse. Receiver is contacting me saying no delivery attempt is made and that they say that they would not deliver or hand over the package to no other than the person on the label. The address (account) has several names so when labeling I just used a name at random. The person i labeled it to is currently traveling and is not there to physically receive or pick up the package. But it is supposed to be delivered to the address regardless. I contact customer service again and they say that they would send an email to the delivery hub and to expect it to be delivered in 2-3 days.

2-3 days later...nothing.

Contact them back again and they again say that they would send an email to the delivery hub. I ask them to deliver to the address and hand over the package to anyone there, giving them extra names in case they needed them. There are only 4-5 people at the address and no claims were ever made from it. They say they would put that info in the email and to expect it to be delivered in 2-3 days.

2-3 days later...nothing.

Again I contact them and again they tell me that they would send another email...wash, rinse, repeat 5 more times for a total of SEVEN TIMES!

There is a supervisor that is handling my case and all they seem to be able to do is to email the delivery hub but the deliver hub is not doing anything. They must have sent at least 10 emails.

What's the resolution here?

I’ m wanting to order the 15 Pro Max. However, with my work schedule I won't be home so don't want it stolen. I would prefer to have Ups hold for pickup. I do have a my choice account but last time I tried it said due to shipper restrictions delivery couldn't be changed so it was left on my front porch for hours. It's weird because the order prior which was from Apple too it was fine. Anyone know how to do this because maybe I'm just not doing it right
