Is stuff close to expiration or something?
I haven't shopped there, so consider me uninformed. I look at their "Wow Deals" and often the prices are those I can find elsewhere. For example, a current one is 2 8-oz bag of chips for $5. That kind of promotion is a regular at Albertson's and Kroger stores.
Maybe the prices are better on things not features in Wow Deals? Help me out. If you're saving money at G.O. what kind of things should I stop buying at Albertson's and Krogers and instead buy at G.O.?

Not sure why I’m 28 and just discovering them but hello their prices are so much cheaper than most other places and for the same brands!! In this economy?? I’m a fan And I love how they mark the prices down for the items about to expire, I’ve found so many things for under $1 just because the “best by” date is approaching. Have never seen anywhere else doing so but it makes so much sense to do that, love it. Also found huge planter pots for $25 like hello?
I shop at Aldi, but noticed on the Dosh app that I can get 3% back if I shop at Grocery Outlet (that is in addition to the 5% back I get with my credit card). So for the foreseeable future (until they do away with the 3%) I am thinking I am shopping at Grocery Outlet.
It seems just as cheap as Aldi.. but which is actually cheaper?
Has grocery outlet become crazy expensive everywhere or is it just mine? Pretty much everything is on par with the higher end, typically more expensive grocery stores in my area. Can’t even get a pound of bacon for less than $9 which is the same or even more than the high end stores in my area, and I don’t even live in a HCOL area. A small container of heavy cream was $2.50 just 6 months ago, was raised to $4 since then, and just last night the same cream is now $5.50 which is more expensive than the high end stores around me. You can still occasionally find a cheap deal on something that is marked to expire in a few days but those are pretty rare these days.
Grocery outlet used to be my refuge for affordable groceries, now it is just ridiculous. Everything at Sam’s club is more affordable but the closest one to me is a 1 hour drive each way making it not cost effective. I hate this insane inflation / greedflation
Trying to find my cheapest options for groceries. Used to exclusively buy my groceries through Walmart, but recently checked out Grocery Outlet since it's close to me as well. Opinions?
A grocery outlet opened up in my town a couple of months ago. I started shopping there buying secondary groceries. I don't buy everything there, but I tend to buy snacks, junkfood, and anything that is heavily discounted. I have found the weirdest stuff there like piggly wiggly brand food (I live in northern california) and various brands I have never even heard of. TL;DR grocery outlet has cheap fun weird stuff.
GO rocks! It's a bit of a treasure hunt: sometimes they'll have some awesome stuff for really cheap and then you go back the next time and it's gone. And sometimes you'll buy something that you think might be awesome only to find that it's awful and then you realize why it's at Grocery Outlet.
might be regional.
Hi all,
I'm in desperate need to cut down costs and wanted to get some opinions about the most convenient grocery stores (I live in San Jose/Campbell) for budget-conscious shoppers. I live a block away from a Lunardi's but find that it feels more expensive and they don't have the variety I'd like to see.
Any tips or advice?
Seems like everything there is the same price or more expensive than walmart, except for a couple weirdo loss leader products now and then
Winco even with the sales tax is cheaper than both overall.
Where is the most affordable place you go for groceries?
Grocery outlet is cheaper for specific items, you have to know your prices, and it fluctuates. Sometimes yogurt is cheaper there, sometimes it's protein cereal...
But like other comment said, winco is going to be cheapest between Pullman and Moscow. Winco for food, Walmart for toiletries and non food is essentially the way to go. Safeway is only cheaper on select foods on their weekly ads, typically fruit is on sale and sometimes cheaper than winco. It's still cheapest at winco overall.
If you go to Lewiston often, the bread outlet store has $1 loaf bread wall with bread, bagels, toast, English muffins, etc. based on what they need to rid of.
Costco is, again, cheaper only in some stuff due to bulk. For example, I can get 27 servings of kettle corn popcorn for 6$ versus 4.99 7 servings at Walmart. But the dairy fruit and meat is either same price or more than winco.
Winco is debit card only and is one of reasons to why they're allowed to keep prices low.
WinCo is 🐐
I recently moved out of Simi, and I miss grocery outlet. That store had some deals!
The food was so cheap I could afford to get kind of fat again.
Were there any drawbacks? Aside from seeing something that you could kind of tell why it wouldn’t sell in a bigger store and got sold off to a discount store, a lot of the food was sold in large quantities and good quality.
Are there any drawbacks to it?
Grocery Outlet is the bomb! GF and I regularly drive to the Simi/Moorpark/Sun Valley or Burbank stores as they're all about equidistant from our place in the west Valley. We're so excited for the location opening up at Mason and Lassen!
GO basically buys up stuff on the cheap and sells it at great prices, and then fills that in with a small amount of staples sold at average prices. You never know what's going to be there, and, don't get too attached to anything, because anything can disappear from the shelves permanently at any time. You see lots of "trial" products from major brands, and products from start-up companies, both of which can be really good...most of the time.
The only flaws I've found:
-
Some of the products have not been to my taste, but if you spend a buck or two for something and it's not that great, oh well. For the record, the "hit-to-miss" ratio is very good.
-
The expiration dates can be kinda close, more so for brand-name products. Check it in the store and make sure you'll be able to use it before it expires.
Grocery outlet rocks
Anyone else have a really hard time buying snacks at full price, that were once on sale at grocery outlet for a great price? 😅 Sometimes I'll say things in my head like; "wow, at grocery outlet I could've got 5 of those for the same price"
Hi!
We relocated to the Deep Ellum district from Oregon state, and I am very much missing all the bargain shopping I did back at my favorite store, "Grocery Outlet." Nothing can compare to the awesome deals I'd find there on a weekly basis... For those of you familiar with Grocery Outlet, is there anything within 20 minutes driving distance from Deep Ellum that could possibly compare? Shopping at Sprouts & Kroger has it's place, but I want even more deals!!! Please don't mention Trader Joes or Aldis, I already know those places...
TIA!!!
