Basically exactly what it says in the title. My phone is switched on - it vibrates and makes a little tone when I plug it into a charger, and when I get a call it rings, but the screen is completely black. Not dim, not frozen, completely black, as if the phone is off or locked. I've tried hard resetting it, to no avail - the apple logo never appears on the screen no matter how long I hold down the button, it just stays black and blank, but I suspect that the hard reset *is* happening, because after a little while the phone vibrates and makes a little tone again as it resumes charging. The screen isn't responding to touch, so I'm pretty sure it's the entire screen that's malfunctioning, not just the display. I'll take it to the Apple store after work tomorrow and see what they say, but I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue? The damn phone's alive, I keep getting dings and noises from it as it gets notifications, and if I could only unlock it to tell it to trust my PC so I could back the damn thing up I wouldn't be so upset! Has anyone else run into this issue? Just thought I'd check on here before I go and let Apple bleed me dry while holding my data hostage.

iPhone 15 Pro Max (Black Screen Of Death) Possible Root Cause Of This Common Problem
My iPhone screen is black and won’t turn on
iPhone works but screen stays black?
I want to let everyone know that the iPhone 15 Pro Max experienced something I researched called the black screen of death. After searching on the solution which worked to reboot the phone contrary to what I have been able to find on the cause of this issue I think I know why it's occurred.
After extensive Google searching for the cause of this bad behavior I found the answer below in quotes in every thread regarding the problem. But I think I have a theory on what causes it based on my personal knowledge and experience that led to it happening on a device that is only 4 days old.
The Always On Display was not showing the normal Day, Calendar, Time and Lower Notifications.
"The most common cause of the black screen of death on an iPhone is physical damage to the screen. However, in some cases, the problem can also occur due to a malfunctioning app, system glitches, or a failed iOS update. Therefore, it's worth trying the fixes below before seeking professional help."
By the way the fix I employed was to press the volume up button once, (press+release) and then the volume down button once, (press+release) and then press and hold the right main (power) button until it reboots and the Apple logo (boot logo) appears on the screen.
The phone has a protector on it since the moment it was taken out of the box, it has never been dropped or even bumped. The glass has a protector on it as well since before it was even setup or activated.
Yet it was put on the charger overnight and when I went to get it to wake it up nothing.
When the phone finished rebooting the battery percentage showed 100% which is why I think it.
I have never had an iPhone before this is my first. But I am an IT Professional of 33 years and sought to find root cause after finding the fix. I think what is occurring here is that charging the phone past the point it reaches 100% at some point causes issues with the screen.
I found that this issue has been reported on older iPhones so it's not something that originates on the 15 series. It's very possible there is a software or hardware issue that causes it to somehow get overcharged even though it shouldn't to the degree it shuts down the screen even from gesture input.
There is a method of turning off the phone by pressing the right button and the lower volume button at the same time which results in a screen that says slide to power off. When this is attempted while the black screen of death is active it does nothing to power off the device.
That revealed to me that it's not just the display that is no longer responding but the entire panel as an assembly. (I attempted to slide the graphic even thought I couldn't see it on the screen based on videos I watched that reveal it's screen position) I tried this procedure as if the screen were on and did so in multiple places on the upper part of the screen to attempt swiping gesture by guessing proximity.
I can't say for certain but I notice this happened after it was continuously charged over night and while it would be assumed there is some code or hardware behavior that should stop the incoming charge I believe that is not occurring or functioning as it was intended. Or the battery is not accepting the charge but the methods employed are doing something to protect against self-destruct.
There are other phones which incorporate some degree of that technology.
Please let me know if others regardless of version have noticed this problem results after extended charging. Because if that is the case knowing the root cause may lead to fixes that can prevent it from occurring to begin with.
I recently did an upgrade a few weeks ago to the latest version. I left my phone on the charger last night and woke up to my phone screen completely black. Force restarting won’t help but the phone vibrates as if it’s turning on. I only see an arrow on my black screen that comes and goes. Anyone ever experienced this?
