Emma Corrin Is Fine With Not Playing Diana to the Bitter End - The New York Times
September 29, 2021 - Fans and critics were generally taken with Corrin’s turn, which displayed a charming, grounded accessibility and grace that mirrored Diana’s public image and offered a sympathetic portrayal of her often chaotic personal life. Corrin, 25, has since followed the accolade-laden path of an earlier “Crown” breakout star, Claire Foy, whose performance as a young Queen Elizabeth II nabbed her two Screen Actors Guild awards, a Golden Globe and an Emmy before she was replaced by Olivia Colman as an older Elizabeth.

Becoming Diana: Emma Corrin on playing the Princess of Wales in Season 4 of The Crown | CBC News
October 12, 2020 - The irony carries mixed emotions for Corrin, the 24-year-old British actor who plays Diana in Season 4 of the show, which launches Nov. 15. "It's more and more strange as it gets closer to it. I'm very scared of losing my anonymity," Corrin said in an interview from London. "I think I have very much taken it for granted up until this point and maybe thought of fame and being in the public eye as quite a fun, silly thing that would accompany this amazing job that I'm very lucky to have."

r/TheCrownNetflix on Reddit: Emma Corrin’s Diana
January 21, 2024 -
After watching Elizabeth Debicki’s masterful portrayal of Diana in seasons five and six, I went back and watched season four’s Diana played by Emma Corrin. It was a performance I loved at the time, but after seeing Debicki, I felt that Emma Corrin’s performance felt caricaturish (is that a real word?) at times. Their mannerisms and body language didn’t have a natural flow like Debicki's. It came off as too rigid and practiced. It became very obvious that she is playing Diana rather than being Diana, if that makes sense. The press meet scene after the engagement, especially, stood out to me.
Is it just me, or do any of you guys feel this way?

I LOVE both actresses' work. I was very impressed with Elizabeth Debicki, might actually say mindblowned. It felt like at times you were seeing the real Diana. I can possibly say she has been the best actress to impersonate her. Emma Corrin did an amazing job as well and was very surprised in a very positive way with her perfomance in season 4. I think something that we have to take into consideration here, at least in my case, is that whenever I think about princess Diana, I think of the princess Diana that was already divorced and separated from the Crown, the last Diana that existed before her death, which is the one Elizabeth plays. Emma Corrin's Diana was way younger, and you could tell and even expect to not be as the one Debicki played. Corrin's was young, immature, more playful with the display of her feelings. By the time Diana was a mother and separated, you could see she was already in another place in her life. I might slightly prefer Debicki's performance, and honestly it would be due to the resemblance of Diana. There were times in which I saw her from afar and was astonished. In a summary, I love both actresses' perfomance, the show made an excellent casting with these two.

I absolutely agree, debicki’s diana is one for the ages. There is no comparison to anyone at all. Emma seemed exactly how you described, the after engagement photoshoot was very learned and awkward. Plus the hushed voice seemed very forced.

Why did Diana do what she did? Actor Emma Corrin looks for answers as she takes on iconic role in The Crown | CBC News
October 25, 2020 - Corrin also spoke to Patrick Jephson, Diana's private secretary. "He knew her very well and was able to provide a lot of insight, which was wonderful." With Diana, Brioux suggested, there may be more pressure on an actor than if the portrayal was of a person not so well-known. That August, they spoke about being queer and non-binary in an interview with The New York Times's Trisha Bendix, crediting Diana, Princess of Wales (whom they portray in The Crown) for facilitating their "journey" regarding their gender identity by being "so openhearted" and supportive of the LGBTQ community during her lifetime.

Emma Corrin: ‘I ended up having an overwhelming appreciation for Diana's complexity’ | The Crown | The Guardian
December 15, 2022 - Corrin, whose agent had instructed her that this was definitely not an audition, went down well with the director: after she’d read as Diana, he took her outside and asked if she would like to work on the character a bit – and eight months later, she got a call asking if she would like to audition properly for Morgan. “In a way, it’s unfair to say that Emma was born to play Diana,” he writes to me in an email.

'The Crown' Star Emma Corrin on Playing Princess Diana
November 12, 2020 - Akin to Diana stepping through the ring of fire at Balmoral in Episode 2 (all right, maybe not quite as intimidating), Corrin was a newcomer to a “Crown” cast that already had a full season together. “I came in as Emma to a very established group of people, most of them insane household names, and I think it played to my advantage in crafting this character and how she would have felt,” she says.

November 25, 2020 - Corrin, who has also defended the show's portrayal of Diana while saying she understands why people might find it 'upsetting', says she found the experience (which was one of her first acting experiences) very 'daunting' but coped by separating the Diana she was portraying to the famous former member of the royal family that everyone knows.
