30 year old car enthusiast from the PNW. Always checking marketplace for fun and keep seeing 90’s F150’s/ chev 1500’s/ Toyota 4Runners etc for crazy amounts. For context I bought a mint 97 GMC 1500 in 2012 for $4000. I’m seeing those trucks for over $10,000 now in worse shape. Same for all brands. Is this just the new normal?

for trucks? Probably not. When a new Truck is $70,000+ it pulls up the price of all the older crapboxes too. People need trucks and the sellers know it.
What is going on with truck prices????
Market finally came back down to earth after that insane bubble. COVID supply chain issues had dealers marking up everything 20-30% over MSRP and people were panic buying like trucks were gonna disappear forever. Then interest rates shot up and suddenly all those folks who were stretching their budgets couldn't qualify for loans anymore. Now dealers are sitting on inventory they can't move and repo lots are overflowing with trucks people couldn't actually afford. Perfect storm of reality hitting the market hard - good news for buyers who waited it out though. More on reddit.com
What the actual heck is going on in the used truck/van market?
First, it's a market. There's more demand for good used vehicles than there are good used vehicles, so they're expensive. Second, if a Fit is seriously going to meet your needs, you shouldn't be considering a truck. More on reddit.com
Are Used Car Prices Going Up or Down in 2025?
With the announced tariffs, I think prices will go up for both. New cars manufactured in Mexico as well as parts are going up and will make new cars more expensive. I think some will be forced to buy used cars which will go up in price due to demand. I ordered my new car during the past administration specifically due to this. More on reddit.com

Is Now the Time to Buy, Sell, or Trade in a Car? - Kelley Blue Book
3 weeks ago - Those high price headlines can make car shoppers feel a little fatalistic. But they’re slightly misleading. The average is high, in large part, because Americans are choosing to pay more. Luxury cars and luxury trim levels on pickup trucks push up the average. Savvy shoppers can still find a quality car for much less than the average. The used-car market is a more complicated story: Prices rose in May even as supply increased.

20K for a 2020 vehicle with 100k miles. This is relatively low for my area, back then you couldn’t even get this for 35K. People were taking out house loans for trucks and paying above msrp.
I mean this is great but I feel like I missed a few pages. What happened!

When Will Car Prices Drop? | Edmunds
June 9, 2025 - According to Edmunds data, the average transaction price for a 3-year-old vehicle eclipsed $30,000 for the first time since 2022, while the average transaction price of all used vehicles currently sits at $25,373. Edmunds analysts are not expecting new car prices to drop anytime soon, and the best time to buy a new car is now. Says Drury, "Waiting will only make buying more difficult as we're already seeing a downward trajectory with new car inventory, which will result in fewer discounts."
