r/Windows10 on Reddit: Windows 10 Consumer Extended Security Updates (ESU) program
August 18, 2025 -
My laptop is running Windows 10 Pro 22H2. I want to enroll in the consumer ESU program to continue getting security updates after the October 14th EOL deadline. According to the info on Microsoft's ESU website https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-10-consumer-extended-security-updates-esu-program-33e17de9-36b3-43bb-874d-6c53d2e4bf42 I should be eligible but I haven't received any notification to enroll.
Anybody have experience with this? How can I enroll or is it something that Microsoft is pushing out in phases?

You can force the "Enroll now" ESU dialogue: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/5512112/my-windows-10-esu-enrollment-message-disappeared-h?page=1 But it will not help you if you are in a region where ESU is still not available. Just wait, dont panic, it will come :)

Microsoft releases Windows 10 KB5071546 extended security update
This update breaks StartIsBack (search it on X, links are banned) and the last ESU broke my wireless Logitech mouse receiver (doesn't reactivate after Windows goes to sleep requiring a full reboot). Currently rolling these updates back and disabling updates for the foreseeable future. If I wanted monthly patches to keep breaking my system, I would have stayed on Windows 11. More on reddit.com

How do I enroll my child’s Windows 10 PC in ESU?
If your child’s device shows a message saying it can’t be enrolled in ESU, it likely means they don’t have the necessary permissions. In that case, you’ll need to enroll the device for them. To do that, you must be set up as a user on that PC. If you aren’t already, your child will need to add you as a user before you can complete the enrollment. Follow these steps to enroll your child's device:
- Switch to your user account on your child's device by selecting Start and select the account name icon (or picture) of your account.
- If you are not a user on their device, your child will need to add you as a user on your Microsoft account and configure it as an administrator following the steps here: Manage user accounts in Windows.
- Once you are signed into your user account, follow the steps to enroll in ESU.
