It is a product family that includes multiple editions (such as Pro, Enterprise, Education) and feature updates (e.g., 21H2, 22H2, 23H2, etc.). Each of these feature updates is treated by Microsoft as a separate release with its own lifecycle and support timeline.

This means that while Windows 11 as a whole continues to be supported, individual versions within it — like Windows 11 Pro 22H2 — can reach end of support, even if newer versions of Windows 11 (e.g., 23H2) are still active and supported

As of October 8, 2024, Home and Pro editions of Windows 11, version 22H2 have reached end of servicing. The October 2024 security update is the last update available for these editions. Enterprise and Education editions for this version will reach end of servicing on October 14, 2025, and will receive security updates until then.

Microsoft clearly distinguishes between Windows editions in how long they are supported. For Home and Pro editions, each feature update (such as 22H2) receives 24 months of support from the date of release. In contrast, Enterprise and Education editions receive 36 months of support for the same version.

So, even though your VM is running Windows 11, the Pro edition of version 22H2 reached the end of its 24-month support window on October 8, 2024. After that date, Microsoft stopped providing security updates and fixes for that specific edition and version.

To continue receiving updates, Upgrade to Windows 11 Pro 23H2 or later.
