I just purchased a laptop with Windows 11, it will arrive next week (not sure why the delay). I only use Linux so I will delete Windows. But I want to give it to my mother to install on her older laptop.
The official website only have ISO with update, and I already updated her Windows from Windows 7 to Windows 10 (from my older laptop) and it's very sluggish. So I want to avoid the update and want a fresh installation.
But to do this, I need the original bootable ISO file (not the update that is not bootable). Where you can get it? I already have original Windows that I will not use, so I will not buy another one.
I don't want to accidentally download Windows with malware, that's why I prefer to ask first.
I may need to reinstall windows due hardware upgrade. I downloaded Windows 11 from official Microsoft site and planning to use rufus to make local account installation.
Few questions:
-
How old/new is that iso file? I mean, is that including system boot failures (Black Screen of Death), shutdown failures on machines with Secure Launch etc, what has been plaguing windows in this month? With new hardware, i dont want buggy OS to make things harder to debug if there is something wrong. And if it is that fresh, is there option to download older, more stable version?

My windows installation is very old, upgraded from widows 10. Havent need to touch windows installer in very long time. I know that with rufus, you can make local account installation. It seems to be that you just need to check that box, when making that usb installation media. Is there anything else that I need to know or is that just that easy?
Our org has moved away from SCCM to Intune, so we lost the automated ISO autopatch infrastructure with it.
VLSC has been shutdown and replaced by M365 admin nonsense. It kinda worked in the past, at the end of the month ISOs were updated with that month's patch. Since 25H2 came out, they dumped all Windows 11 architectures, builds, and languages under 1 item, made the names incredibly wordy, and gave a shitty "exact-match" searchbar which makes it difficult to search through their pile of nonsense. As far as I can tell, the only download link for x64 25H2 English iso has not been updated since it came out in September 2025. The multie-dition ISO from consumer download page is barely on 3/6/26 update.
This begs the question, where are yall getting your ISOs from?
