If you have Windows 10 Pro and upgrade to Windows 11 it will be Pro edition by default.

You should see the Windows 11 update in windows update. If not go to Download Windows 11 (microsoft.com) and use the Windows 11 Installation Assistant.

July 22, 2024 -

Ok so as the title suggests I had a question or two about upgrading from Windows 10 Pro (64-bit)to Windows 11…

Will the upgrade be Windows 11 Pro or Home?

If I go with the upgrade, which as it stands is 23H2, could I download 24H2 down the road as a windows update when it releases?

Would a fresh install make a difference? … I know that a majority of people will say a fresh install of windows is always the way to go… I o my as as I currently have my computer set up just the way I like it via Windows 10 Pro 22H2 (64-bit)..??

Thank you all for any feedback and help :) :)

Hi Samara,

Upgrading from Windows 10 Pro to Windows 11 Pro involves a fairly straightforward process. Here are the general steps to follow:

  1. Check System Requirements: Before you start, ensure that your computer meets the minimum system requirements for Windows 11. These requirements include specifications related to the processor, RAM, storage, graphics, and more.
  2. Windows Update: Make sure your Windows 10 Pro system is fully up to date by running Windows Update. This will ensure that you have the latest security updates and improvements. You can also manually check for updates and optional updates in your machine.
  3. Check Compatibility: Download and run the "PC Health Check" tool provided by Microsoft to confirm whether your PC meets the Windows 11 requirements. This tool will give you an idea of whether your hardware is compatible with the new OS.

Once the upgrade is available, you'll be prompted to begin the upgrade process. Follow the on-screen instructions to proceed. Make sure to back up your important data before proceeding.
  2. Download and Install: The upgrade process involves downloading the Windows 11 installation files and installing them on your system. This can take some time, depending on your internet connection speed and hardware.
  3. Follow Setup Steps: During the installation process, you'll be guided through various setup steps, including selecting your language, region, keyboard layout, and signing in with your Microsoft account. You'll also need to accept the license terms.
  4. Keep Files and Apps: You'll have the option to keep your personal files and apps during the upgrade. Choose this option if you want to retain your existing data and applications.
  5. Wait for Completion: The upgrade process will continue, and your system will restart multiple times. Allow the process to complete without interrupting it.
  6. Set Up Windows 11: Once the upgrade is finished, you'll be greeted with the Windows 11 setup experience. You can customize settings, install additional apps, and personalize your new Windows 11 environment.

Remember that upgrading your operating system carries some risk, and it's always recommended to back up your important data before proceeding. Additionally, the availability of Windows 11 upgrades might vary depending on the official release schedule and regional availability.

Please update with your findings.

Thanks!
