I am having issues installing important updates to my Windows 11 , and an idea that came to mind was to use the latest Windows 11 Installation Assistant. Though i'm also a bit paranoid to if it's gonna erase all my data or do something unpleasant like that, so what happens if i do that? (And in case that leads to an unpleasant issue, any help with updating my Windows 11 Machine?)
I made a blogpost a few days ago on how to upgrade to Windows 11 using the Windows Installation Assistant. At the time it only would work for 24H2, but I’ve received a couple questions on if it would be possible to upgrade to 23H2 instead of 24H2.
That gave me the reason to make another post, as also I want people who are looking to upgrade to 23H2 using the Installation Assistant be able to find the answer easily.
Both downloads to 23H2 and 24H2 can be found on my blog: https://www.thomweide.nl/2025/02/upgrade-to-windows-11-using-windows-installation-assistant-with-microsoft-intune/
We have a few hundred of our client's PC's on the original release of Windows 11. As you probably know the code base is different from 22H2 and 23H2, so there is no enablement package for updating it.
I've tested using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant to install a newer feature update and it seems to work pretty well with one caveat. I like this method since we just have to manage a small download and the installation assistant manages downloading and installing the update.
Windows11InstallationAssistant.exe /quietinstall /skipeula /auto upgrade /copylogs $dir
The caveat, and place I'm getting stuck, is that before this will run you must run the PC Health Check program and click the Check Now button. I can install this program, but can't find a way to get it to run the check from command line.
Is there a way to run this check, or apply a registry setting to tell it that the check has been run so it will install the feature update?
EDIT - Forgot to mention that the goal of this is to run it from an RMM (Kaseya) so this needs to be from from command line.
Thanks,
- Marc
Hi Everyone,
I made a blogpost on how to upgrade to Windows 11 using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant.
I myself use the built-in policies to upgrade to Windows 11, but have seen some cases where organizations do not use Windows Update to patch their systems.
I’ve also seen cases where a device does not want to upgrade, even though the policy has been assigned for several days.
This solution uses ServiceUI to still allow the user to interact with the restart pop-up at the end of the installation.
Let me know what you think.
