Hi,
As per the issue description you are willing to use emoji on Windows 7. Microsoft added monochrome Unicode emoji coverage to the Segoe UI Symbol system font in Windows 8 and added color emoji in Windows 8.1 via the Segoe UI Emoji font.
I would suggest you to install the update provided in the article mentioned below and see if it helps you to use emoji on Windows 7. This article introduces an update to the Segoe UI symbol font in Windows 7 and in Windows Server 2008 R2. This update adds support for emoji characters and some control glyphs that are included in Windows 8 and in Windows Server 2012.

I hope I can help people out who land on this topic:
As of november 15th I had a similar problem with my emojis. I'm making use of node-emoji. They turned black and white in Google Chrome only (after an update of Google Chrome). Before this update everything was fine.
I figured out that this happens because I applied font-weight: bold to that emoji. When I applied normal weight to it, the emoji went back to their colorful self :-).
Color fonts are not supported in Windows 7. Windows 7 was released in 2009, just before emoji were added to Unicode. Color font support was added to Windows 8.1. You should consider upgrading to Windows 10.
