Is Windows 10 or 11 Security all I need?

Yes, if you use the Microsoft Edge browser and Office 365, you will have solid protection with Windows Security and the default Microsoft Defender Antivirus. However, you may experience limited protection when using third-party browsers like Google Chrome or Firefox. What are the best security settings for Windows 10 or 11?

Enable anti-ransomware features in Windows 10 or 11 so you won’t be locked out of using your computer and asked to pay a ransom (don’t ever pay a ransom, as it doesn’t guarantee recovery). Also, be sure to configure Windows Security notifications so you know when updates are available to strengthen the detection of malware and other threats on your machine.

Microsoft tries to head off the “novel security risks” of Windows 11 AI agents - Ars Technica
November 18, 2025 - But like other kinds of AI, these agents can be prone to error and confabulations and will often proceed as if they know what they’re doing even when they don’t. They also present, in Microsoft’s own words, “novel security risks,” mostly related to what can happen if an attacker is able to give instructions to one of these agents. As a result, Microsoft’s implementation walks a tightrope between giving these agents access to your files and cordoning them off from the rest of the system. For now, these “experimental agentic features” are optional, only available in early test builds of Windows 11, and off by default.

r/WindowsHelp on Reddit: Unable to open Windows Security in Windows 11, what do I install to be "compatible with 'windowsdefender' links"?
February 13, 2025 -

From following this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zho0vAq6E1Q

I've tried to run PowerShell > Run as Admin > right-click, edit + paste "Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.SecHealthUI -AllUsers | Reset-AppxPackage" Search for Windows Security > Select App Settings > and then it doesn't let me open it, it just closes.

I also tried Settings > Privacy & Security > Open Windows Security, which is essentially the same thing and it came to the same results, Settings just closes without telling me what's wrong. I've skipped his step to reset the settings and moved on to open the cmd > run as Admin > sfc /scannow and it said "something about corrupt files were found and fixed" and fixed it did because after I restarted my computer, I can finally see the same error everybody else had been getting. I believe I'm only missing the app itself, it's like all of Windows Protection is built around this app and it itself is entirely removed.

Before this, I searched up "reinstall windows security" where I came across a forum that allegedly had a solution asking me to download a fishy .exe from some site that is definitely not Windows, down the forum I also found the same steps copy and pasted from different people and none of the people replying were getting any results, so then I was led to believe that this is the one and only solution. I got as far as to downloading it, pressing the scan button in the app, and seeing it scan everything I've ever had downloaded on my PC and then realizing halfway that maybe this MAY not be the fix to downloading Windows Security. I got to turning it off via Task Manager and canceling its scan mid-progress, I immediately uninstalled the app, realizing what I've just done, there was a gaping hole in my computer's security and my soul. I checked to see if that app had left anything after I uninstalled it and with the same name it left a .txt file that had everything I left it to scan before I canceled it like a receipt of my death and mistakes. The forum: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/how-can-i-reinstall-windows-security/07052af6-0999-4c74-bca2-f233c89500a7

This all started because I was clearing out what i thought was unneccesary files from my Local, LocalLow, or Roaming files which most likely have had a file for Windows Security in there which might've started this whole mess. But I'm not sure if it really did because I had just upgraded from Win 11 from being an avid Win 10 user, and all this started to happen out of nowhere, (copium) If anyone has an idea of what I can officially install of Windows/Microsoft software, please let a brother know.
