r/WindowsHelp on Reddit: Microsoft Store unable to download or update apps on Windows 11.
December 3, 2023 -

Hey!

Since I performed a clean install of Windows 11 on my new drive, the Microsoft Store is not able to update apps anymore. When selecting a new app to download or when updating an existing app, the library shows "Pending" or "Downloading" on the app. I waited for an hour and none have finished yet.

In the screenshot below, you can see the behaviour: https://imgur.com/a/hrD1mIX

Things I have tried:- Performed a clean install of Windows 11 (twice)
- Updated Windows to latest version|
- Under the Microsoft Store app options selected repair and reset.|
- Signed out and back in again in the Microsoft store
- Ran wsreset.exe
- Ran Windows store apps troubleshooter (says it couldn't identify any problems)
- Used System File Checker, as explained here (which reported no issues)
- Re-registered the store app using: Get-AppXPackage *WindowsStore* -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

None of these seem to have solved the issue. Does anyone know anything else I can try? Thanks!

-- Update --

This issue seemed to be on Microsoft's end, and was automatically resolved for me today (dec, 3rd).

Holy s**t. A lot of people having the EXACT issue as me. Literally just built a new PC for my kid's friend. went to update the apps so he could play his game pass games and everything installed but Gambar, Windows Web Experience Pack and the Xbox app. Been looking for a fix for HOURS. Also attempted to update apps on my own PC and the same thing happened but it was only Windows Web Experience Pack that wouldn't update. Hopefully there's a fix soon.

Temporary Solution for Users Looking to Solely use the Xbox App: - Open the "Microsoft Store App" - Search for "Xbox Insider Hub" and click "Get" - Let the Microsoft Store download and Install it (It will work unlike the other apps) - This download will take time so be patient and don't touch the other frozen updates - Open Xbox Insider Hub when it's finished - Go to Previews and scroll down to PC Gaming - Click on it and Join the Preview Program - Let it install, this process also takes a long time. - Once "Pending" turns into "Manage" - Restart your PC - Once back to Windows, open the Microsoft Store, Click Library (Bottom) - Click the three dots on each frozen app update and click "Cancel Download" - After all have been closed, click on the "Get Updates" Button - Install the Xbox App - This one took about 15 minutes but it DID WORK this time. So be super patient. - Open Xbox App after it downloads and enjoy the beta version for now Hopefully Microsoft fixes this issue soon, it drove me insane. Cheers everyone!

You can try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue with the Microsoft Store: Reset the Microsoft Store cache: Press the Windows key + X and click on Command Prompt (Admin). Type WSReset.exe and press enter. This will reset the Microsoft Store cache. Re-register the Microsoft Store: Press the Windows key + X and click on Command Prompt (Admin). Type the following commands one by one, pressing enter after each one: powershell Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"} Disable third-party antivirus or firewall software temporarily to see if it's causing the issue. Check for Windows updates: Go to Settings -> Update & Security -> Windows Update. Perform a clean boot: This will help you determine if any third-party software is causing the issue. Go to Start, type msconfig, and press Enter. In System Configuration, go to the Services tab, select Hide all Microsoft services, and click Disable all. Go to the Startup tab, click Open Task Manager, select each item, and click Disable. Close Task Manager, click OK, and restart your PC. Reset your Windows 11: Go to Settings -> Update & Security -> Recovery, and then click Get started under Reset this PC. If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may need to reinstall Windows 11.

r/WindowsHelp on Reddit: restoring missing microsoft store app
September 4, 2023 -

Running windows 11 arm 22621.2215 install and the microsoft store app has disappeared. Using windows key and entering "microsoft store" brings up a hit that when you click it runs a troubleshooter process that doesn't resolve issue. I've tried the following search results suggested solutions and none of them has worked.

  1. run "Check for updates" and apply them if offered

  2. Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth

  3. WsReset.exe

  4. Get-AppxPackage -allusers *WindowsStore* | Remove-AppxPackage followed by Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers Microsoft.WindowsStore* | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

  5. download and install the xbox app and lauch it and wait for it to display prompt to install missing microsoft store app dependency which never happened on my setup

Any suggestions on another option that is known to work?

You must never perform step 4 on Windows 11. This OS already has the Reset-AppxPackage cmdlet. You must never run step 4 it on Windows 10 20H2 or later, either. These versions have WinGet. In addition, in step 4, after your run this: # BAD CODE - DO NOT RUN Get-AppxPackage -allusers *WindowsStore* | Remove-AppxPackage ... the following code potentially does nothing: # BAD CODE - DO NOT RUN Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers Microsoft.WindowsStore* | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"} ... because Get-AppxPackage potentially returns nothing. Anyway... If your Windows 11 has Winget, try using it to install Microsoft Store. Otherwise, try reinstalling Windows. Trouble is, I don't know if either of these two steps can happen on Arm.
