I was MOH at a winter wedding near Lake Tahoe about a year ago. Bride told me she didn't really care what I wore, so I said "I'm going to wear a floor-length, long-sleeved dark green velvet dress." because where else can I get away with something like that. I found what I wanted on Etsy from a seller in Lithuania, and the dress was PERFECT. Bride's sister, mother and mother-in-law were all inspired to follow my lead, and we all ended up getting long velvet dresses, in different cuts and colors. The photos turned out great, and we paired the dresses with fur stoles for the winter outdoor pics in the snow. I'll be honest -- the dress was hot. I definitely was not cold, even outside. It wasn't hard to dance in and move around, but it was kind of heavy. I changed for the reception into a shorter, long-sleeved sweater dress, but I did end up wearing the velvet dress again for New Year's.
