My current setup is a wired Philips SHP9500 with a V-Moda BoomPro. I’ve been using this for a couple of years now and am growing tired of being tethered to my computer. A few times now I’ve also experienced sound dropping out on one side and static like the cable is moving or getting loose on the headset. My primary usage is zoom calls, teleconferencing, things like that.
I’d like to move to a wireless headset but want to also keep as good microphone quality as I can so I don’t sound too tinny to the other side. I’m wiling to spend for it if I need to - I feel like the sweet spot should be somewhere in the $200s but bang for the buck works, too. I feel like I’d lean toward wanting a USB dongle for it, vs stock Bluetooth, just because of the impression that audio quality is going to be worse over normal BT. Maybe that’s not the case so much?
I’d say I would prefer over-ear to on-ear, and the Jabra’s came up as cream of the crop. But some YouTube tests between the Jabra Evolve2 75 vs the 85, I thought the 75 sounded better and if it’s light enough then maybe that’s OK. The only reason I went with over-ear originally was because I spent a full day on the phone with a crappy USB headset a long time ago and it hut my ears. But that one’s pushing 300 bucks - if it’s worth it then that’s one thing but I’m afraid of dropping that much on something just to find out it’s subpar. I guess I’d like to know if something like that would definitely be better than my current setup and meet what I’m looking for.
Another one that caught my attention was the Logitech Zone Vibe 125. That seemed to check a lot of boxes, it looks nice, I like the mute function with the mic, and the price is reasonable. Some listening tests I watched made it sound like the mic quality wasn’t that great, though.
I’d look at gaming headsets, too, if the audio and mic quality was decent. I’d rather not have a lot of glowing RGB stuff, I don’t need that, but if the quality and price is right that’d work, too.
