Recommendations for a home use printer 2021 - Canada
My suggestion is for you to just go with a monochrome laser for home, and do color prints on actual business stores (walmart, staples, etc) for your occasional photo needs. The reason is that photo paper has so many material and size considerations, sometimes it isn’t so economical. Of course this depends on your use case (i.e. kids wishing to print color stuff for fun/homework.) Should you choose the monochrome laser route - We just purchased our printer several weeks ago and based on my research, Brother l2370dw comes out to be the best bang for the buck. Laser Toner doesn’t dry as ink, fast printing, airprint for convenience. Get the one w/scanner (199 CAD + bulk) if you need it (just use smartphones). Note that as with any laser printer, it is slightly bulky compared to inkjet counterparts, but it’s basic form factor in black isn’t too obtrusive, w/ paper storage to boot. Model is quite popular, you will see this come regularly out of stock in most stores, just be diligent and check for restocks (go for curbside pickup.) Staples, best buy, or amazon have it. Last note: “laser printer paper” isn’t a need, just use regular copy/multiuse paper. Hth!
More on reddit.comEdited to add I do need to be able to print in both colour and black and white.
I currently have a printer that I use for printing both personal and teaching stuff at home, however it is an HP Deskjet and I'm finding it just guzzles ink lately, esp. the black ink. I am printing a bit more atm, but not enough to justify using as much ink as it seems to be using.
The printer itself is only about a year or so old. But the last few months, I feel like I'm spending more on cartridges than I'd care to, so now I'm looking for suggestions of printers that I can get for home where the ink will last longer than a couple weeks. I'd prefer something that's not too big as space is limited. TIA.
