So, I just finished playing the Witcher 2 and I am still confused who is the actual bad guy in the series.
Sure, there is no "real" bad guy in the series, though we were constantly told that the "real" bad guy is the Wild Hunt but even they have their own complications and reasons why they want to invade that world.
So, in witcher 2, I was surprised that the assassin was actually another Witcher, even though technically speaking, they are monster hunters for hire, not assassins. Though I feel bad for killing Letho becuase he wanted to bring the Viper School back to life which sounds reasonable
Anyway, Emyhr took advantage of those fallen kings to spread his Nilfgaardian empire during the war becuase of course, to keep the empire alive and strong, much like the Roman Empire did as the Nilfaargains are based of and of course, the people in Velen, Novigrad and Skellige love to hate the Black Ones
Then we have Radovid, the mad king, he will kill or burn anyone who even has a suspicion to be a magic users becuase of his fanatic hatred towards mages becuase of his dad and the Eternal Fire often backs up this fanatic hatred becuase of their extremist view AND THEN when they run out of magic wielders, they go for the non-humans to exterminate like the dwarves
(to be fair, Radovid has a point becuase the Lodge were power hungry and Philippa was a bitch. God, I hated hearing her talk during the Withcer 3 with all her negative and abusive talks. Not sure why Geralt still obliged to help her. But not all magic wielders are .. well, evil)
And then we have the Wild Hunt who were after Ciri for God knows how long (I'm surprised they never gave up) and they somehow want to justify why they want Ciri and that world becuase of their dying world (whether that is fact or a made-up lie, I don't know)
And of course, we have a few other minor antagonists like the Mirror Merchant in the Hearts of Stone DLC or a few thugs.
So in all, who is the bigger bad guy of the series? Should Geralt even have part of the blame for this even though he is supposed to be neutral?
To be fair, I wanted to play as Geralt as far away from being evil or choosing any evil choices as possible, even though, those choices are not always black and white or apparent, obviously.
I have finished reading all the books and I loved it. Doing a recap at the end of the saga, what I felt was, even though Vilgefortz is the main villain (there's no question about his abilities and the threat he posed to our beloved characters), I feel that he's not mentioned enough within the story. There were times that his existence is almost forgotten by me (during baptism of fire mostly). All in all, if he had been a much bigger player in the story giving more content related to him, he would have felt more menacing. What do all of you think?
