I have experience with Squarespace but the current website is on Wix. The website needs redone either way but wondering if I should take the opportunity to switch.

Both have their drawbacks. I’m a web developer. I code my websites so I actually don’t like either of them because of the low performance scores they get and lack of creativity they have in their templates and limits on what you can create. For a regular user, wix might be easier to use and more flexible. Squarespace has always been very rigid and hard to edit in my experience early on in my career when I was dabbling with them. I recently did a dog trainer site, you can look at it for design and content inspiration. https://prevailk9training.com So I say try your hand at wix and see what you can do. And if you do want to do online scheduling, DONT use the wix booking platform. Use a third party booking service so in case you ever need to move away from wix you can take your booking platform with you. I recommend using square up for your payment processing and get their booking platform when you need it and just add a link to your site. Nice and easy. I never make custom booking solutions. You become vendor locked in the ecosystem your site is made in and can’t leave it without starting over with your booking system. So keep your site and your booking and online ordering separate.

I founded a nonprofit and am in the process of creating everything. I am at the point that I need some sort of website so I can direct donors and potential contract clients to it. I need something very basic to discuss who we are, have a page with our board listed, a page for donation solicitation, and pages for our offered services.
Some of our services are fee-for-service, so potentially having ability to allow for booking and payments would be useful, but not necessarily required as we can manually complete that process by the interested party calling or emailing.
I have no experience designing a website and am doing this on my own.
With this in mind, is there a better platform to use between Go Daddy or SquareSpace? Or, is there a better alternative to these?

I'd go with Durable. I used it when I needed a quick professional site for a small charity. It built everything automatically and then I just added our details and PayPal link. You can always upgrade later once you get traction.

Dev agency here. I’d recommend digging past the popular names you mentioned. They’re well advertised but not well featured. Squarespace - This DIY tool uses proprietary website code and will never be transferrable, while running slow and lacking (in my opinion) important features. Godaddy - This company has the worst reputation I’ve ever been aware of in the industry due to underhanded tactics and horrible service. They have a website builder and the sites I’ve seen built on it performed alright but looked notably outdated. Wordpress - Many people reach out on a regular basis hoping we can their broken/hacked Wordpress site. These sites can be ok, but they require regular maintenance and monitoring. Webflow - There’s a learning curve to this tool, but it’s fully featured and highly customizable. You can export your website if you’d like. Carrd - I regularly hear good things about this simplified platform. Wix - I hear praise and complaints for it, but have only used it once. In my opinion it’s a better-featured version of Squarespace. Not amazing, but functional.
