October 10, 2024 - Wolverine. No one else can ever take up the mantle with critical acclaim and undisputed unanimous fan support ... I think it's rather split. There's those who want Hugh. Those who want Keen, and those who want a fancast like Cavill or Radcliff to take the role. ... Just chill. No need to act this way about it. ... I am. I’m just joking while giving reasons why Hugh is the best ... I agree. He is a good actor and he is excellent with the role but the idea of him still doing a role like this when he's nearing his 60's is really unbelievable to me.

r/marvelstudios on Reddit: Wolverine and the Next Great Actor Transformation
March 4, 2025 -

Wolverine fancasts are like buttholes—everybody’s got one. The problem with most of them is that they usually boil down to how tall, buff or grizzled the actor is.

Let’s be real: Nobody looks like Logan.

Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, we can look at recasting Wolverine from a whole new perspective. Movie magic can manipulate height, and modern prosthetics are crazy good. Look at Colin Farrell as the Penguin. He is totally unrecognizable in the role and so all we see on screen is talent. Audiences are drawn deeper into the Penguin's story because Farrell and the makeup team have made it believable. Nobody looks like him—not even the actor who plays him.

Bill Skarsgård as Count Orlok, Christian Bale as Dick Cheney, Heath Ledger as the Joker, Charlize Theron as Aileen Wuornos, John Hurt as the Elephant Man. These are castings that worked not because the actors looked the part, but because they were able to channel their characters energy and soul. Prosthetics would greatly broaden the talent pool when finding the next Wolverine.

What matters most shouldn’t be an actor's height or ability to grow thick mutton chops…or even to get into insane physical shape. The things that should matter most are passion for the character, chemistry with the cast, and the ability to make us believe that this man has lived through a torturous century of pain, love, rage...and is the very best at what he does.

Yes, the makeup chair and wearing prosthetics all day for weeks and months can be brutal. But many fans are wanting Marvel to dial Wolverine back to a more reserved role to put the spotlight on other X-Men this time anyway. If Logan shows up only when it counts, not only would it make his appearances more meaningful and impactful, but the actor also wouldn't have to dread the process as much if they are only playing the part every couple of years or so. (A truckload of money also helps.)

So, with appearance no longer prioritized as highly, who are your unexpected casting ideas for Logan? Are there any popular or controversial fancasts that would be improved with prosthetics? Or should Marvel make a new star and cast an unknown like they have done before?

October 15, 2025 - Keep Jackman around for Old Man Logan, keep Dafne Keen on for X23 and let her age into the role for the adult version, then try Cavill for a newer young Wolverine? Personally, I would love it if they could get a newer, lesser know actor who is at least below average male height to fit the original role better, but I feel that Jackman is so married to the role, that a huge shift like that would disengage the casual audience, since they would not recognize a short Wolverine as well.

Hugh Jackman has played Wolverine\Logan for the past films and now that he retired from the character. I wonder which actor would be perfect to play the next Wolverine?

Honestly, I can't think of anyone. I've always imagined Wolverine as Hugh Jackman and that's it. I mean maybe Tom Hardy would good in that role? Idk, tell me your thoughts.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I think it's a missed opportunity that they could've tried all the Fancast with the Wolverine Variants, instead of most of them being Hugh Jackman.

Like say, the comic accurate short Wolverine being played by Jack Black, Weapon H being played by Karl Urban in heavy makeup (to of course differentiate it from Thor Ragnarok), Patch being played by Daniel Radcliffe, Old Man Logan being played by Clint Eastwood, and the classic Wolverine fighting Hulk being played by Scott Eastwood. After all of this, and the Cavillrine cameo, the worst Wolverine is finally shown, being played by none other than Jackman, who ultimately accompanies Wade.

According to me, this could've been a good way to experiment with the Wolverine castings with the audience reaction, and in the worst Wolverine's case, it would've made his connection with the audiences even deeper, as this Logan, being played by Jackman, failed his Universe as a contrast to Fox's Wolverine, where he was a celebrated hero.

People say Henry Cavill and Taron Egerton, but honestly I think Hugh Jackman was irreplaceable. What are they going to call the next series anyways as 'X-men' is already taken up. Can't they keep the original actors such as Patrick Stewart, Jennifer Lawrence and Tye Sheridan? And with enough CGI and dying, Hugh Jackman could still look good. After all, him and proffesor X are the longest existing Marvel characters so far

By now, everyone's likely heard or read the story of Daniel Radcliffe being cast in a "mystery role" for Deadpool 3. We could all debate about whether or not he should be the one to carry on in the role of Logan, and bring the character full time to the MCU. But my question is, if not him, then who? Is there another actor who's the right age / size with the chops to pull it off besides Radcliffe? It's not about mimicking or replacing Hugh Jackman IMO, I'm more interested in the Wolverine character himself, and what will work in the MCU long term. What's everyone think about this?

June 29, 2024 - As for Hugh, as much as it's a ... by others for being short, ugly and hairy, it doesn't really affect the main core character. He nailed the rage of Wolverine perfectly. ... They called it bad casting at the time cause he was too tall. Fans are REALLY fucking stupid sometimes. That being said, what other films would you like to see of him? Or what more would you like to see from this variant of Wolverine? I know they’d probably just have him on in other big avengers films, but I think it would be really cool to have a marvel series about him and maybe Deadpool also. Like those other limited series’s on Disney+ such as Moon Knight, WandaVision, and Loki. I think they could do something interesting with it, like showing how this variant of Logan acclimates to normal human society, and learning to just live life, while some smaller scale villains cause trouble for him and Wade. Idk I feel like that would be really cool.

We need a short Wolverine! That's why he's called Wolverine, he's a gruff, violent, hard-as-nails badass in a small package, just like the animal. A furry little Canadian. I don't know any actors that would fit this bill, maybe they need to try out an unknown. I'm sure there's some small-name actor out there who would knock it out of the park if given the chance to audition.

We need the suit and mask too, we've waited long enough.

Thoughts? Any overlooked actors who would be perfect for a comic-accurate Logan? (Just want to be clear, Hugh Jackman was godlike as Wolverine, and that's part of the reason why I think it would be smart to embrace this slightly different version of the character that is closer to the source material, in order to differentiate him.)
