Original siding from house built in 1993. Washington State. Puget Sound area so lots of moisture.
On two sides of the house--west and south--facing sides, the wood siding near the bottom of the house (about three feet from the ground) has become swollen, soft and brittle in some places. In some spots at the very bottom row, some pieces have broken off. Also around the chimney where the roof slopes into it, it has become swollen.
The rest of the house is "fine": not swollen and soft at least.
The questions are:
-
Can it just be replaced on these sides or should it all be replaced?
-
Is this something siding companies, or contractors, would be willing to just replace in sections?
The inspector said it would probably be around $20-30K to do the whole house and would probably need to be done in 1-2 years since the siding is near end of life. Doing just the sections that really need it would be more in my budget in that time frame.
Yikes... math skills. 30 year old wood siding...
