I only have a 90cm footprint (width) spare in the room, so I’m hoping to find something narrow and tall that I can stand at to work. Ideally it holds my iMac (24”) up top (eye level when standing), Mac keyboard (waist level), minilab MK2, and a launchpad pro. So, a few shelves.

BUT; everything I find online is a wide desk with a couple of shelves. I might be using the wrong search terms.

Anyone have any tips?

I put together a desk out of pine wood and iron pipe legs. It all cost me about 100 bucks. That probs depends on where you live and how much you need but its an option.

I had a similar problem. I found a guy who makes desks with raw wood. I told him what I wanted and now I am waiting for my desk. He was really helpful with the design. I basically draw what I wanted. It was a little expensive tho.

Hi all, I'm looking to set up a home office space for my wife. The nook we have for her is narrow but deep, so we're constrained by the width.

It's about a 39-40" width. I was however hoping I could get her a deeper desk to make up for the narrow width.

Does anyone have any suggestions? We're going to be in Vancouver, Canada. Open to a range of costs but hoping to keep it under $1200 USD / 1500 CAD if possible. Willing to go higher though if there's something that people feel is worth it.

Her weight requirements are pretty low, with most of her space taken up by dual monitors (on vesa mount arms), a couple iPads, small speakers and a mouse keyboard. Depending where she's working, she might also have a think client terradici. We can make this work width wise, but having a deeper desk would definitely make it more comfortable.

If you want deeper than 30" you'll probably need to buy the desktop separately. Such as getting a piece of solid wood cut to size and finishing it yourself (in the U.S. at least home improvement stores will do this in store for you for free or a couple $). Note that most frames quote they can accommodate a 30" max depth but some have gone deeper and reported no issues. You definitely don't want the depth more than the width though, maybe not even close to that, as it can get unstable as the desktop will extend further than the legs. So just over 30" is safest, like 32". Even if you were ok with 30" depth, finding that combined with < 40" length straight from a sit-stand desk manufacturer may not exist (Fully for example has some smaller desktops, but they are < 30" depth). Plus Canada limits your options in general. So I'd plan on getting the desktop and frame separately. Note this will also require you to measure for and pre drill your own holes in the desktop. You want a 1-1.5 inch thick desktop. Be sure to look at frame heights, especially minimum, as some don't go low enough, and whether they include a desktop or not. Measure her expected sitting and standing heights (height to bottom of her hands in a typing position when seated with feet flat on the floor vs. when standing). Sitting height is often lower than you'd think, as most standard desks are actually too tall ergonomically for many folks (29-30" tall). I'd also ensure it has free returns just in case something doesn't work out (free return shipping and no restocking fee).

Look at solid wood countertops at Home Depot. It should be possible to get unfinished and have it cut to size.
