After a decade on Reddit, I've seen my fair share of remote/work from home jobs come and go. Trust me, I've tried everything from survey sites to microtask platforms, usually ending up disappointed and wondering why I wasted my time. >>> https://www.reddit.com/r/Career/comments/14qvp3v/comment/lpb4xiq/ Answer from EchoJoelle on reddit.com

r/NewYorkLookup on Reddit: Anyone doing legit work from home jobs in NYC? I’m struggling rn.
July 18, 2025 -

hey, just being real, I’m broke as hell right now. rent’s a lot, groceries feel like a luxury, and I’ve been trying to find anything online that’s actually legit and not just “take this survey for 5 cents.”

I’m in NYC, trying to figure out if there’s any kind of real work from home stuff people are doing out here. not tryna get rich, just need to stay afloat.

if you’ve got anything that’s worked for you like remote gigs, part-time stuff, freelance, whatever, please drop it. even if it’s boring. I just need something that pays.

appreciate any help 🙏

April 28, 2024 -

Most remote job postings I found exclude New York, and most job search sites don't really have options to search for them. If I search remote jobs in New York, I'll scroll through the job description and see NY is excluded even though I searched for ones specifically hiring in New York.

Does anyone here do remote work in New York and/or know businesses' which do hire New York Applicants?

I do not have a degree but have some progress in a bachelors for IT. Unsure when/if ill finish.

I have moderate experience in customer service, finances (mostly making and processing financial excel sheets/macros), and Accounts Payable/ Receivable.

any help is appreciated.

r/AskNYC on Reddit: Does anyone work 100% remotely? If so, do you have any advice for finding an entry level remote job?
March 1, 2021 -

I've been underemployed since college, trapped in restaurants, for some reason never being able to find a decent full time job. NYC is too expensive for me, but i'm trapped here waiting tables slowly, slowly saving money, trying to plan my escape and figure out a career once and for all. The only plan that makes sense in my head is finding an entry level remote job in tech / finance, then moving to a way cheaper part of the country, paying off my debt, and saving money, and finding some shred of privacy & some semblance of quality of life.

I'd love to speak with anybody who has any knowledge of remote jobs, any tips or tricks for finding something entry level, or any advice what so ever. I'm really tired of struggling and being an underpaid abused slave even with a bachelors degree and a brain. It's dehumanizing and beyond depressing. I know I could be an asset to any company, I'm intelligent, I can talk to people, all of the things. It just seems like everything is "who you know".

I've considered learning programming because I know software engineers make very good money, and I need to enter an industry where there is room for advancement, to move up and make more money eventually. But i'm not going to lie, i'm a little all over the place, because everyone I know is also a miserable working class slave that has no knowledge about anything business related.

Id love to speak with anybody who might have some advice for finding remote work, or if by chance anybody is hiring or knows of anybody hiring. Thank you so much for any help you can provide and happy thanksgiving to you all.

r/jobs on Reddit: LOOKING FOR PART-TIME WORK IN NYC OR REMOTE
September 27, 2025 -

hi everyone,

i’m bit nervous posting this but i’ve been on the job hunt since january and really need a part-time job. i’m currently a masters student, writing my masters thesis therefore full-time work will add too much to my current workload. before this though i did work full-time all through my grad school curriculum. i have a bachelor’s degree in communication studies, about 3 years of experience in customer service and 1.5 years in digital marketing. my experience at the moment means nothing since i’m at a point where i just want the opportunity to make an income. i’m not asking for much but i’ve been getting rejected from literally anywhere, sales associate jobs included (got rejected for a seasonal role at macy’s). i’d like help with any leads, or maybe some advice on how to tailor my resume for part-time non-corporate roles? i feel like my current resume lets the part-time roles hiring managers know i’m “overqualified” which sucks because truthfully i did corporate for 3 years and i’m okay with trying something else. i’m rambling but anything helps, please and thank you!

p.s. i want a role with scheduling flexibility so like afternoons, evenings and i don’t mind working weekends.

r/remotework on Reddit: Where can I find legit work from home jobs (part-time, no experience)?
April 24, 2025 -

Hey guys,

I’ve been trying to find some legit work-from-home opportunities that are part-time and don’t require experience, but it’s been hard to tell what’s real and what’s just fluff.

I’m open to anything, data entry, customer service, writing, etc, as long as it’s remote, flexible, and pays at least a little something.

If you’ve personally had success with any platforms, jobs, or side gigs that fit this, I’d love to hear about them. I’m not expecting to get rich, just looking for something reliable to get started.

Thanks in advance, really appreciate any help or guidance…

Edit: Just wanted to share my experience — I tried a lot of things, and here’s what actually worked for me.

I used EliteSurveySites to find high paying survey panels, read their tips, and signed up for a few panels they recommended. At first, I barely made anything, just a few cents here and there. But after a couple of months, things picked up. Now I’m making over $1500 a month with a mix of BrandedSurveys, SurveyJunkie, and others.

I also started doing simple writing gigs like captions for Instagram and LinkedIn, and i make around $200-$300 per month from this.

I started posting affiliate content in pet forums, which brings in around $100–$150 from last month, but it seems the number of clicks are growing day by day. So, I’m expecting more from this.

Hope this helps. I'll update this post if I come across anything else worth sharing.

r/AskNYC on Reddit: WFH’ers - Recommendations For Getting Out?
March 28, 2023 -

Hi all, I’m switching to a remote job and moving to Manhattan (63rd/lex) in June. I wanted to ask other WFH’ers in the city how they get out of the house during work hours? I normally love staying in and being in my place, but being in NYC I want to get out and experience it. I think a major part of that experience is commuting, being in an office etc. Plus I’d like to meet new people. I’ve thought of a few ideas.

Please comment what you guys do or any thoughts regarding my ideas.

  1. WeWork periodically: I went to wework in Dumbo recently and it was cool. Could definitely get pricey if I wanted to do it more frequently.

  2. Get a gym membership like lifetime/equinox or anywhere that also has a workspace built in? I need a gym membership too so this would be 2 birds 1 stone.

Outside of this, no clue. Thoughts/ideas all welcomed.

I live in Brooklyn NYC . I have a degree in speech therapy I DO NOT HAVE THE MASTERS SO I CAN NOT PRACTICE SPEECH THERAPY!!

I’m NOT a practicing speech therapist and not in the field.

Just stating this because people saying I can just work as an SLP when I don’t have credentials for this. And I’m not getting masters in this as I’m not interested in it

I’m considering MSW and being a therapist I’m future…but idk 🤷🏽‍♀️

I just have background in teacher assistant those jobs I worked in past and currently now

I just want to work a cozy remote job away from people!!
