Authentic ww2 bomber jacket
Grandfather's WW2 Bomber Jacket Needs Repair
Videos
I received this item from a client of mine while helping her clean out her attic. It was her late grandfather's, who fought in the war. I'm certain of its authenticity as she also had his decommissioned rifle and sword, I have no reason to doubt this went with it. The jacket is in bad shape, the sleeve ripped off down by the wrist and the shoulder is ripped but it is in fact and authentic ww2 relic which I do not see many of this type (winter bomber jacket) Is it worth anything in this condition?
So per the description, I've recently been gifted my grandfather's bomber jacket. It's already my favorite thing, but it definitely needs some work and I don't know who to take it to or how to judge if they're qualified to do the work.
Off the top of my head, it certainly needs serious leather... conditioning? It's been hanging for so long that it's stiff enough to hold it almost horizontal from one side. Of course, I don't want to damage the ink... Especially not that D Day one on the 2nd row!
Beyond that, the lining (in particular the sleeves) is a bit shredded, and I'm sure there are a number of other minor cosmetic things that I'm not really concerned about. The thing went through WW2, it shouldn't look pristine, but I'd love to be able to wear it out occasionally. Any tips?
