r/FujifilmX on Reddit: X-T50 and X-T5 weight and size
September 6, 2025 -

Hello!

I’m deciding between these two cameras. I currently have a Nikon D7000 and had it for almost 14 years. I was looking for a smaller camera that I can bring with me everyone especially when travelling. I was leading towards the 50 but I went to compare them in person and the 5 was smaller than I thought.

For people that used both, how do you find the size and weight difference when you are using them?

I finding it very hard to decided between the two.

Edit: thank you all for your advice, I just ordered a silver X-T5 with 16-50mm!

r/fujifilm on Reddit: A Minimalists Dilemma - X-T5 vs X-T50
June 17, 2024 -

Hi all,

Yet another post asking for advice on whether to go for the X-T5 and the X-T50.

I recently placed a preorder for the X-T50 thinking it was the perfect choice (also ordered the 27mm to go with it). I have yet to officially own anything Fuji, and this is going to be my first camera. I decided on the X-T50 because it was so lightweight and compact, but after doing more research, the X-T5 has a lot of things that I want that the X-T50 is missing.

Things that the X-T5 has that I really want are a better EVF and the three way tilt screen. I can't see myself using all of the buttons on the X-T5, but maybe I would grow into them as I get better with photography. The WR and the extra battery life would be nice, but aren't really deal breakers for me. I do live on Vancouver Island, so maybe the WR would be nice since it can rain here quite a bit, and windy days on the beach does kick up some sand.

Things I like about the X-T50 are the small compact size, built in flash, and minimalist design with less buttons and curved edges. The X-T5 obviously has more pro's as a camera, but the minimalist in me is telling me the X-T5 is too big.

The type of shooting I want a camera for is street, travel, and wilderness backpacking. I am into ultralight backpacking, which is why the X-T50 seems more desirable. I have held the X-T30ii and the X-T5 to try and see what would work best, and my first impression was that the X-T5 was quite a chonky beast, but maybe I can swing the X-T5 since I cut my pack weight in other ways. Any other minimalists / ultralight backpackers here?

Appreciate any insight and advice!

[update]

In the end I decided to go for the X-T5. On the release date of the X-T50 my gut was telling me it wasn't the right choice. As much as I would love to have a lightweight compact camera, the X-T5 suits my other needs more. I have no hate towards the X-T50 and its film-sim dial, but overall its just not for me.

I will put some of my reasons below incase others come across this post and they are in the same dilemma.

  • I want to grow as a photographer and I feel like having a designated ISO dial, instead of a film-sim dial, would be better suited to grow into. I think I might get bored of the film-sim dial after a while, and I know I have a particular taste and don't see my self using all of the film-sims, so I feel like I wouldn't use that dial to its full potential.

  • I decided that WR is something I would 'need', since I want to take photos in all types of conditions, especially because I enjoy crappy weather, and I do not want to worry about my gear. (The weight of worry was heavier than the extra weight between the X-T5 and the X-T50)

  • Some other things I wanted that pulled me to the X-T5 were the 3-way tilt screen and the better evf.

  • Added bonuses that weren't deal breakers: better battery and dual SD card slots.

  • Things I will miss about the X-T50: Lightweight/compact, built in flash, and I like the overall look of it more.

Shortly after graduation, I'm going to be travelling the world. Short stint in Europe, road trip across America, and time in Japan. I wanted something manageable from a size perspective, but still quality and flexible for experimentation. I'm not sure whether is is great or awful timing, but I was almost sold on the X-T5 kit with 18-55mm lens as a buy-once-cry-once camera purchase, with no clue that the X-T50 was on the way.

Now that it's come out, do y'all think the X-T50 is the better choice? I think I prefer the size and look of the X-T5, as well as the stronger battery life, but I haven't had either of them in hand. I was willing to spend the money on the X-T5, but I'm always looking to save if possible.

r/fujifilm on Reddit: X-T50 vs X-T5 for a Beginner - Seeking Owner Perspectives on Auto Modes, Ergonomics & Key Differences!
July 27, 2025 -

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to buy my first camera and have narrowed it down to the X-T50 and X-T5.

I went to the store to get the X-T30 II but found that it's end of life. Honestly, being my first camera and a kind of gift to myself, I want to buy new. I checked out the X-T50, which seemed incredibly small and portable with the XC 15-45mm kit lens. However, I plan to use it with the new XF 16-50mm f/2.8-4.8. After seeing the X-T50 with the 15-45mm, and then trying it with the XF 16-50mm, it gave me the impression that the lens was almost bigger than the body haha.

I then tried the X-T5 and immediately noticed its much better grip, which is a big plus for my larger hands. That said, I know a 5-minute store test isn't enough to judge long-term ergonomics or the feel of carrying a heavier camera for travel. My main use will be travel photography, and while the X-T50 with a small prime is very appealing for portability, I'm weighing that against the potential comfort of the X-T5 on long travel days.

I'm a beginner and want to understand more about the cameras' automatic features and owner experiences. I read a great comment about a "fully automatic mode with subject and scene detection" being handy for beginners. I really like this point because despite having an interest in learning, I also value the comfort of having a point-and-shoot experience if I need to make sure I don't miss the shot while traveling.

Here are my main questions:

X-T50 Lens Balance & Ergonomics

  • For X-T50 owners, especially those using the new XF 16-50mm or similar-sized zooms: After perhaps seeing the X-T50 with a smaller lens, did you ever feel that the larger lenses, like the XF 16-50mm, made the camera feel unbalanced or "dwarfed" in real-world use? How do you find the overall handling and comfort, especially for longer periods or travel, particularly if you have larger hands? Do you find you need an additional grip, or is the X-T50's slightly improved grip sufficient?

  • X-T5 owners, do you ever find its larger size or weight to be a hindrance for travel, or is the improved grip worth it for you?

Automatic Mode, Subject & Scene Detection, and Film Simulations

  • X-T50 owners: How robust is the auto mode with automatic subject (animals, birds, cars, etc.) and scene detection features on the X-T50? Does it genuinely make the camera more "point-and-shoot" friendly for beginners? How reliable is it in various situations?

  • Crucially, when in auto mode on the X-T50, can you set a specific film simulation yourself, or is it automatically selected by the camera without the option to change it?

  • X-T5 owners: Does the X-T5 have comparable (or identical) automatic subject and scene detection features? Or are there any advanced recognition features on the X-T50 that the X-T5 might lack, potentially making the X-T50 surprisingly more beginner-friendly in this specific regard?

Other Considerations for a Beginner Traveler

  • I've noted that the X-T5 has weather sealing and significantly better battery life, features often associated with more professional use. For travel photography, how important do current owners find these to be? Has the lack of weather sealing on the X-T50 or its smaller battery been an issue for your travel/general use?

  • I also noticed the X-T50 has a built-in flash, while the X-T5 does not. As a beginner, convenience is a factor for me. How useful do you find the built-in flash on the X-T50 for casual travel photography?

For context, here are the prices I'm seeing in Ireland (on amazon, store is more expensive):

  • X-T5: €2,057

  • X-T50: €1,772

Any real-world experiences and perspectives from current owners of both cameras would be incredibly helpful in making my decision. Thanks in advance!

They are both high quality and very similar cameras and you cannot make a wrong decision with any of them! Technically they have same sensor and processor, XT50 is cheaper and smaller, I have it and I'm very happy with it! XT5 is weather sealed, so if you plan to shoot in very bad conditions, it can be a reason and should have slightly better EVF, it has larger battery and slot for 2 SD cards.

The image quality and automatic modes are identical between the two. The size difference is real, but I find it not as significant as you may think. Neither is small enough to fit in a coat pocket. And if you need a sling or bag anyways, a few hundred grams here or there don't make much of a difference. Of course the X-T5 has a deeper grip, but there are good third party grips for the X-T50, too. What I find the most significant differences between the two: The X-T5 has a much larger EVF, and a far longer eye point. If you wear glasses, you may not be able to see the whole EVF at once on the X-T50. Without glasses, the difference isn't as noticeable, but the X-T5's EVF is still much bigger. The X-T5 has a two-way tilting screen, while the X-T50 only tilts one way. This makes portrait low-level/overhead shots easier. Weather sealing. But in most situations, a simple camera bag will keep your camera dry better than any weather sealing. I have the X-T5 and X-M5. There are situations where I do prefer the smaller camera. Especially while exercising or when I don't expect much photographic opportunities. But if I can only choose one, it is no doubt the X-T5. (But the X-T50 has far fewer limitations than the X-M5).

r/FujifilmX on Reddit: First-Time Buyer: Fujifilm X-T50 or X-T5? Best Lens Combo for City & Nature Photography
February 13, 2025 -

Hey everyone,

I’m stepping up from iPhone photography to my first dedicated camera and trying to decide between the Fujifilm X-T50 and X-T5. I mainly shoot city scenes, people, and landmarks, but I also want to capture nature and landscapes while traveling.

I was initially set on the X-T50, but now I’m considering the X-T5 for better future-proofing. Is the upgrade worth it, or would the X-T50 be enough for a first-time buyer?

Also, what lens combo would you recommend for a mix of city and nature photography? I was thinking of getting the XF 23mm f/2, but I’m open to other suggestions.

Would love to hear your thoughts!

The XT50 is definitely “enough” for a first time buyer. The XT50 shares the same sensor and processor as the XT5, so internally and for photography, they are nearly identical. The biggest difference IMO is that the XT5 is weather resistant and the XT50 is smaller/lighter and has a built in flash. I have an XT20 (nearly the same size as the XT50) and with the 27mm pancake, it is very pocketable, making it a good balance between a point and shoot and a more capable set of lenses when needed. I also have the XT5. With the smaller lenses, it is very easy to travel with, but not really pocketable. The larger size and grip does make it more pleasant with larger lenses if you believe you will get into longer focal lengths. The XT5 is also weather resistant, which is nice if you would like to take photos in dirty or wet environments… but I’ll say that as long as you aren’t actively taking photos in the heavy rain, an XT50 fine to travel with you in those conditions as long as you take care during transport. I think as far as the camera go, if cost isn’t really a factor, I would get the XT50 if you were certain you would be using the smaller f2 primes or the 27mm pancake. If you think you would be interested in some of the larger doomed for longer focal length primes, then you will definitely be happier with the XT5 as it offers a few more options and a larger grip to handle the larger lenses… the point where you put a large lens on a camera, the body size being pocketable isn’t really an advantage. If I were to start with either camera, I believe I would choose a small zoom like one of the “kit” zooms and the old 35mmf1.4 or the 35mmf2. This will be a great place to start allowing some focal length flexibility and a good fast prime for lower light or shallower depth of field.

Depends on your comfort level with carrying a bit more weight. I bought the X-T50 because I needed a lighter, interchangeable package for travelling, and share my camera with my siblings who prefer lighter setups. Were it solely up to me I would’ve gone for the X-T5 as it’s only a little bit more but weather sealed and has 2 x SD card slots and a better battery plus the ISO dial. Personally I do use the film sims dial a lot and it’s nice to be able to flick through them but I can also see why people just go for the film recipes only and if you’re planning on mostly shooting one recipe at a time then don’t need the dial. It is still relatively fast to go through the q menu for the recipe changing but some cameras only get a limited number of custom recipes you can put on it at one time I believe ranging from 7-13

January 31, 2026 - At this price point, the only compelling reason I see to get the X-T50 over the X-T5 is if compactness is your top priority, which means saving 119g in weight and size (not a lot, honestly).
