Bought a weird X99 motherboard… now it screams at me with beeps. Please help before I lose my mind
Error code "bd" on cold boot only with a Asus X99-E WS motherboard
Videos
hey there, i got this cheap chinese x99 dual cpu motherboard from aliexpress, with 4 sticks of ram, i just want to say that currently i do not have a problem, but this is for the people that will seek help and might stumble across this reddit post centuries later, my motherboard randomly stopped working and showed error code 67, since it was on a seven-segment display, someone might think it would be an error code b7.
usually in this error, the motherboard doesn't post, some people suggest to check for bent pins, or check the ram. it could be very hard to debug.
i was stumbling across this problem again and again, until i discovered this magnificent thread in which `Furious_Styles` suggested to losen the HSF screws. https://hardforum.com/threads/chinese-x99-tf-with-code-67.2011267/
and it worked.
procedure: losen the screws that you have mounted the fans on.
thats just a method i found that could help multiple people
I have a code 99 on my Asus X99 A-II, most likely caused by a virus from using a Tzurk brand AIO LCD screen. (Same issue with my AMD pc as well). Both occurring on the same day. With no video output, I’m at a loss on how to rectify this problem. Additional details/specs can be provided. Any tips are greatly appreciated.
So I picked up this AX-X99-6PLUS dual-CPU motherboard from the depths of the internet because I wanted a cheap server/LLM hobby build and to start getting into server building… and now it refuses to POST and instead just beeps at me like it’s judging my life choices.
Here’s what I’ve got:
-
Dual Xeon E5-2680 v4
-
2×16GB DDR4 RDIMM ECC Registered
-
GT730 GPU
-
2000W PSU
-
Fans spin, mouse lights up, but monitor = No Signal
-
Board gives a repeating beep pattern (single weird beep then 5 same beeps)
-
No debug LEDs, no helpful lights, just beep-beep-beep
I’m new to servers and probably did something dumb, so please be kind.
If anyone can spare a little empathy and advice, I’d be super grateful 🙏
Update:
I tried in DIMM1 + DIMM5 no 5 beep, but no mouse light and no monitor signal.
With RAM in any other slots, or with no RAM at all, it beeps 5 times, mouse light turns on, but still no monitor signal.
Both the GT 730 and GTX 1060 have been tested and work.
I was running into a scrapped X99 board that seemed to be perfectly functional, even accepting a BIOS update, but getting stuck on post code B1 with multiple cpus. (Code looks a lot like 61, so people get confused.) I've seen a ton of these that have failed, including online.
Today, I am glad to report that I have found a solution.
There is a bad soldering joint (from factory) on one of the power components on the memory detection line, which i've confirmed from three different boards (this may depend on which factory it was manufactured from) that seems to have been produced at similar times.
When this component loses continuity, the board simply cannot detect any memory, or gets stuck on B1. It knows the stick is there, which is why it doesn't get stuck at post code 53, but moves on to b1.
I'll update with photos later!
Good evening, guys
I did the turbo unlock procedure on my mae machinist board with xeon e5 2640 v3. When restarting the first time (after doing the process) the motherboard gave video, it was going to start normal, but I did the recommended process in the video that I learned the turbo unlock of resetting the user data and the motherboard to the factory settings, after that, it no longer started, the pc turns on, turns on the fans, rotates the fans, and restarts, it does it infinitely.
What might be the issue and how to resolve it? Can you give me that help?
Thank you in advance
