Do you know that back in time Yahoo was also a big brand like Google? Then what happened that it now disappeared?
Firstly let’s look at Yahoo’s big mistakes:
Yahoo was at its peak position before 1998 and Google was launched in September 1998.
1998: Larry Page & Sergey Brin offered their revolutionary search engine algorithm(Page rank technology) for $1 million to Yahoo but Yahoo refused the offer.
1998: Yahoo refused to buy Google for $1 million.
2002: Yahoo realized its mistake and tried to buy Google for $3 billion. Google asked for $5 billion and Yahoo refused again.
2006: Yahoo attempted to buy Facebook at $1 billion while Facebook wanted the offer of $1.1 billion and Yahoo refused to buy Facebook by considering the amount overvalued.
2008: Yahoo refused to be sold to Microsoft for $44.6 billion.
2016: Yahoo sold for $4.6 billion to Verizon.
Now let us look at the reasons for Yahoo’s downfall:
First thing first ‘Yahoo did not pay much attention or use the right strategy for its marketing part.
Unfair Acquisitions: Yahoo invested its money on acquiring those companies that gave the opposite results of the expectations. Companies like: Broadcast.com, GeoCities, Overture Services, Flickr, Right media, Tumblr.
Yahoo missed many awesome & great opportunities and made big mistakes as I told you in ‘Yahoo’s big mistakes. There were various offers made in front of Yahoo to expand but Yahoo refused all of them. Also, multiple other businesses were eating Yahoo’s market share but it was not eager to handle its downfall.
Lack of real vision.
Appointment of wrong CEO (Terry Semel) who had a strong background but was not much aware of the future internet unlike the CEO of Google (Eric Schmidt) who was fully aware of future technology & who made a contribution to the development of Java programming language at Sun Microsystem. An interesting thing is that both Google & Yahoo appointed the new CEO at the same time to further their development & expansion.
Rejection of Microsoft’s proposal.
Failing to buy Facebook.

I've been trying to find a new email that isn't either Google or Microsoft. I've heard about protonmail but I want an email that is still recognizable enough amongst everyone. Yahoo is by no means the tech giant it used to be so I figured it could be a good option, but I'm unfamiliar with their practices as a tech company.

Hi, I really want to know how Google got so ahead of Yahoo even though Yahoo came before it. Am trying to understand this from a business standpoint. I can't really find a proper case study on this.
is it a good replacement for gmail and google?
My new website, which has been running for 2 month, some of the keyword has been indexed by google and their rank is not good as they shown on Bing and Yahoo. For example, one of my keyword on google ranked #48 and it ranked on Bing is #3.
Few years ago when you tried searching for something on Yahoo search, it showed up search results to answers that were both confusing as well as vague.
You would not use Yahoo again.
Today Google has become the same.
Ask any question that's one layer deep on any given topic and it shows up answers that are generic and vague like Yahoo search is.
You would come out being more confused than you did before the search.
Google knows it has this issue. It's doing nothing about it.
We all know, two months ago Google launched a "Helpful Content Update" where it warned and made assuraces that this update would make everthing 'Ok'. It would be like the Panda or any of those updates that kept SEO junkies sweating all day! They said the update would solve the issues of unhelpful content being found on most search queries.
Crickets!
Nothing happened. All it did was remove content made by bots!
It seems Google has no intention of improving content any more. Its only interested in helping first timers. Ones who have no idea about a given topic and searching for it the first time. Ones who are ok with a Wikipedia search.
Google has now become the Status Quo.
It's open to being disrupted by another company or a bunch of entrepreneurs who are ready to help consumers answer the deeper questions on any topic. Disrupted by the ones who want to serve audiences that search beyond Wikipedia and want to go deep.
Google is in the same position as once Yahoo was two decades ago.
Google is the next Yahoo!
I've found that Google Finance and Yahoo Finance have different formula for calculating stock return over a period.
Yahoo Finance uses the closing price of the periods involved and Google Finance uses the opening price of the period start and closing price of period end.
I think Google engineers are smarter than Yahoo engineers. But I'm very confused why Google chose this.
As an example, in Yahoo Finance NVDA stock shows up as 2.68% return for 5-days (i.e. this just concluded trading week), versus 3.98% in Google Finance.
Who is right?
Looks like Yahoo is wanting to buy Chrome alongside with OpenAI
For the longest time, I trust Google Search Engine to have the best/most accurate search result because of how widely used it is. I always switched to Google Search Engine for every browser.
I’ve used both for years and I definitely prefer yahoo. Easier to navigate and yahoo has an easy to see unread messages tab that’s super convenient. 🤷🏼♀️ I get made fun of for having a yahoo account, but why should I prefer Gmail?
I hear shit about yahoo from time to time. I'm open to change it up. If I did, do I gotta change all my emails with all my websites like dominos pizza app? Anyways, change my mind.
Ever since 2017 when Yahoo was purchased by Verizon, the site has increasingly got worse and worse. In 2018, they shut down Messenger and gave the most generic reason to why. Instead of improving it and making it like Google Chat, they just shut it down, opened another service like it, and then shut that down too and gave no reason. In 2016, they shut down Yahoo Games and gave the same stupid vague reason like they later did with Messenger. The reason the Yahoo Games shutdown is significant is because it was a service that made Yahoo seem like a cool place to play games and chat with friends. Lastly, they shut down Yahoo Answers in 2021 and gave the reason saying they are "moving forward to make more innovative products" which is TOTAL bs. Yahoo Answers had an active community and was a strong Quora competitor, but they shut that down too.
They could have a larger user base if they just improved their existing products to align with what users want instead of lazing out and just shutting down all the cool stuff they had. As of 2023, all thats left of Yahoo is Finance, Mail, News, Sports, and Search, which are all boring services that just piggyback off other news sites and services like Bing. And their premium support packages that are a total ripoff. The only reason Yahoo even exists is because people still have Yahoo Mail accounts that they haven't transferred to other mail services. Once Mail shuts down, Yahoo is done.
TL;DR: Yahoo could have a bunch of users, but their bad business decisions led to their downfall.
Right now for my job I have to have an account with one of these four companies. Which one would be the best to have an account for? At the moment I don’t have an account for any of them
