List of date formats by country - Wikipedia
1 week ago - Writers have traditionally written abbreviated dates according to their local custom, creating all-numeric equivalents to day–month formats such as "14 March 2026" (14/03/26, 14/03/2026, 14-03-2026 or 14.03.2026) and month–day formats such as "March 14, 2026" (03/14/26 or 03/14/2026).

Why YSK: YYYY-MM-DD is the International (ISO) Standard format for dates. This format makes the most sense for reasons of sorting and also eliminates any confusion due to different date formatting in different regions. This is especially useful when you have files in a folder that have dates in the name.

I work as a data analyst for a company with both US and UK offices so always use this format to avoid the confusion of which date format I am using. I’m UK based so all my Computers default to ddmmyyyy and it can cause no end of problems extracting US data. I also have used the Yyyy-mm-dd format for naming files since I can first remember because it was easier to sort in windows file explorer.

I like how it simply goes from the biggest measurement (year) to smaller measurement (day) In order. In my home country we do the opposite, going from day to month to year. I NEVER understood why the hell Americans switched the order of day and month just to make things more complicated. Whenever I see 11/10/2020 I am never sure how to read it because of this mixup Americans did.

What country uses which date format?
Yes, there are different formal date formats in different countries, but “the 10th of April” and “April 10th” are not formal date formats, they’re just different ways of writing a specific date, and would both be acceptable in any English speaking country as far as I’m aware. In the U.S. we do mm/dd/yyyy (yes it’s completely nonsensical we know). The UK generally uses dd/mm/yyyy. yyyy-mm-dd is an increasingly accepted international standard format though it’s mostly only used in datasets and that kind of thing, it’s rarely what you’d see displayed on an actual user interface. Why do Americans write month/day/year instead of day/month/year? - Quora
January 26, 2023 - Originally Answered: Why do Americans write the date "month/day/year" instead of "day/month/year"? What is the history of this system? · · I’ve been curious about this for a good while. It appears that what really happened is that the UK changed its formats from a “traditional” English style of writing the month as “month day, year” in longhand to using a “Continental” style of “day month year” sometime in the early 19th century, possibly around the time of the Napoleonic Wars.

April 9, 2024 -
Sorry if the title is a bit confusing.
When I was in school, in English class we were taught to write the date as "The 10th of April", but I've seen people write "April 10th". And just now I saw a meme where people that use the dd/mm/yyyy format were fighting people that use mm/dd/yyyy. So I was wondering: are date formats specific to different English-speaking countries? I'm not from an English-speaking country, if it's relevant.
Thanks.

When saying/writing a date in full it doesn’t matter as much. I’m British and I would say “10th of April”, it sounds a little American to me to say “April 10th” but it’s not ambiguous at all so it’s not going to confuse anybody to say either one. If I’m writing the date in a short form that is different. ‘10/4/2024’ would be the 10th of April for me but the 4th of October for an American. There’s a handy map on this Wikipedia page that shows which countries use which format. It’s more than just the English speaking world since those short form dates can be understood by anyone of any language if they know which format is being used.
