So I'm learning English and there is this American teacher who taught us that we should avoid using the word GORGEOUS for a good-looking man, because it has a very feminine connotation and men won't like it.
But I always thought GORGEOUS was used for men too, because there is that song from Taylor Swift, 'you're so gorgeous', and I guess she is talking to a man.
Then I thought of using HANDSOME instead, but the teacher said HANDSOME is kind of old-fashioned or formal. It's not something that you would use at a bar or a nightclub. You would use HANDSOME for your father. "Father, you're so handsome".
If I can't use GORGEOUS, and I can't use BEAUTIFUL because it's for women, than I am left only with old-fashioned words like HANDSOME or formal like ATTRACTIVE?
HOT seems too sexy. CUTE is too sweet. GOOD-LOOKING sounds so... generic? An object can be good-looking too.
