r/youtubepremium on Reddit: Seeing too many "Your YouTube Premium family membership will be paused" messages
October 28, 2025 -

Hey guys,

Recently I've seen several people here mentioning that YouTube is now requiring all family members to be in the same household.

I'm really curious - since when has this been happening?

Is this affecting users who got YouTube Premium outside the U.S., like in India or other countries where it's cheaper?

Has anyone in the U.S. received that notice? What's the workaround for this? Does it happen when members have different addresses on their Google Pay payment profiles, or is it related to the device location?

Also, what happens if members of the group are traveling? I'm genuinely curious - what have you guys found out? Thanks!

Sad news

YouTube has started disabling Premium Family accounts that do not live in the same household.

According to the Family Membership terms, all members must be in the same household .. or you'll get a warning and your subscription will be canceled within 14 days.

r/youtube on Reddit: YouTube just paused my Premium Family access even though I paid… anyone else?
September 18, 2025 -

So I woke up to an email from YouTube that says:

“Your YouTube Premium family membership requires all members to be in the same household as the family manager. It appears you may not be in the same household, so your access has been paused.”

Like… what? I’m paying for Premium, I followed the rules, and I even filled out their appeal form like they told me to. Still no reply. Meanwhile, Netflix at least gives you clearer options with their household thing.

Now I’m stuck watching ads again even though I literally paid for Premium. It’s so frustrating — feels like they just took my money and ghosted me.

Has anyone here dealt with this and actually got their Premium Family access back? Is there any real solution or am I just forced to either move to individual Premium or cancel altogether?

Guess Google thinks “family” = whoever’s on the same Wi-Fi router 🤷‍♂️

r/youtube on Reddit: Anyone else had their YouTube Premium family plan access paused?
August 8, 2025 -

Got this email from YouTube saying my Premium family membership is “paused” because I may not live in the same household as the family manager.

I’m still technically in the family group, but all the Premium perks (ad-free, background play, downloads) are gone. Basically feels like I’m back to regular YouTube overnight.

The funny part is… I am family, just not physically in the same place for now because of work. Kind of blows my mind how strict this is. Even Netflix — and we all know how stingy they are with password sharing — doesn’t go this hard on family members living apart.

Has anyone else run into this? Did you get your access reinstated, and how? Any tips on dealing with support without just getting canned copy-paste answers?
