It's pointless to have numbers when you can customize your list. Some people sort their list alphabetically, many others use their own custom sort. Using numbers would mean you would have channel 45, followed by channel 3 which would look pretty dumb. More on reddit.com

How are channel numbers easier than creating your own list, sorting by most used, or just using search for the name? Seems like it would be way harder to remember an arbitrary number aligning to a channel feed. I think your parents need to figure out how to use something different when old norms no longer apply. I’m using my Mom’s service and am finding it hard to find channels since they are not quickly identified with numbers. With her old service, I could at least memorize the numbers of channels that I liked.

I think it is so annoying that there are no channel numbers. Makes it hard to navigate. I can ignore it, but the reason i got youtube tv is for my parents to watch their channels in high quality and to pay less, but they refuse to use it. They find it hard and confusing to use, so they haven't cancel their Direct TV account so I'm paying double.

In any case, cancel one service or the other. No sense paying double. If you want to force the issue and actually pay less, cancel DirecTV. They will learn YTTV, or they won't watch TV.
