Retrain both “Dark Sage” and “Thousand Dragon” so they can be summoned by either fusion summon or be special summoned by the successful effect of “Time Wizard”, they would both be placed in the fusion deck. While we are at it, let’s make a “Time Wizard” archetype deck that allows for all fusion’s involving “Time Wizard” to function this way so they can all be either special summoned or fusion summoned. r/yugioh on Reddit: How would you retrain this guy to make him playable?

Such a cool card with an insane effect, but basically impossible to summon. So, what would you do to make this card playable or how would you retrain this OG of OGs? The easy answer is to make a fusion of DM and TW, but I think there’s room for much more creativity.

Hmmm…. This one is tough to not just outright retrain because you need DM on field AND TW effect to go off. But…. If you wanted to not retrain Sage and just try to make some auxiliary support for him, I think I’d do something like this: Dark Magician, the Fledgling Sage Level 7 DARK Effect Spellcaster This card is treated as “Dark Magician” while on the field or in the GY. If you control no monsters, you can discard 1 card, then Special Summon this card from your hand. If this card is Special Summoned (from your hand), you can Special Summon 1 “Time Wizard” from your deck. You can only activate each of these effects once per turn. Future Time Wizard Level 2 LIGHT Effect Spellcaster This card is always treated as “Time Wizard”. If this card is Normal or Special Summoned, you can toss a coin. If Heads, you can destroy all monsters your opponent controls. If Tails, destroy all monsters you control. If this card was Special Summoned by a DARK Spellcaster’s effect this turn, you can apply the effect as though you flipped Heads, regardless of the result. You can only use this effect once per turn. When this card would be sent to the GY (from anywhere), banish it instead. The PSCT for these are probably not right because there just aren’t many coin toss cards, but this is what I’d do. Gives you access to Sage but it’s conditional on running a(nother) brick and being easily stopped by Ash or Imperm, and you have to pitch a card so there’s some kind of cost.

October 23, 2021 - Ok so here’s what I’m thinking for effects, I’m thinking for alloying time wizardhe gets the basic retrain effect where “this cards name is treated as Time wizard while on the field, or in the graveyard”, but then his actual effect is as follows: you can pay half your life points and send one card from your hand to the graveyard, Destroy all monsters your opponent controls, and if you control “dark magician” when you activate this effect, you can send it to the graveyard and special summon 1 “dark sage” from your deck.

"Sage of Dark Magic" Dark Sage Retrain : r/customyugioh
May 27, 2019 - Usually it's summoned when the retrain dies. Examples are Silent Swordsman, Silent Magician, and The Yubel fusion. I also recommend having this card work when it's initially summoned as well, or you'll have to wait one turn to properly use it, and you probably won't have another turn-- for better or worse, after summoning this thing. Lastly, I'd say banish 2 spells from your graveyard rather than one card from your hand. It follows more closely with other Dark Magician support, and keeps you from minusing when you use it.

r/yugioh on Reddit: What classic monster would you retrain and what would its effect be?
June 3, 2018 -

I was thinking about 5-Headed Dragon and how garbage it is now, which is sad cause to baby me it was the be all end all of boss monsters. Now it's just the thing 4kids liked to use as a big scary monster. So I thought of how I would retrain it, and decided to add it to one of my favorite archetypes, Metaphys

Metaphys Five Headed Dragon Level 12 Synchro Light WYRM 5000 ATK 5000 DEF 1 “Metaphys” Tuner + One or more none tuner “Metaphys” Synchro monsters. You can banish up to 3 “Metaphys” monsters from your hand or graveyard, banish that many monsters your opponent controls. When this synchro summoned monster attacks, you can banish 1 “Metaphys” monster on your side of the field, this card can make a second attack during each battle phase this turn. You can only use each effect of “Metaphys Five Headed Dragon” once per turn. During the end phase of the turn this card was synchro summoned, you can banish it, then special summon 1 of your banished “Metaphys” monsters.
