r/buildapc on Reddit: Which one to get: Z690-I or B760-I
July 25, 2024 -

I can't make up my mind between this two MB. I'm "upgrading" and "downsizing" my existing PC, so the only component I change is motherboard. I have only two M2 ssd and don't need raids or more drive connections. I want to upgrade my slower RAM to DDR5 6400. My CPU is 12700K but I don't see much benefit in overcloking it, but donwvolting only. Will there be any profits in getting z690 and not overckloking cpu? As for the specs b760 states much higher ddr5 speeds support.

Which one do you think is better choice, considering z690 sosts +60$ more where i live.

ASUS ROG STRIX Z690-I GAMING or ASUS ROG STRIX B760-I Gaming.

r/intel on Reddit: B660 vs B760 vs Z690 vs Z790 for 13600k
January 20, 2023 -

Ok so I'm in the process of picking the parts for my first ever PC build. Decided to go with Intel i5 13600k and DDR5. The issue I'm having is choosing the proper motherboard.

I've looked all over online and seen different reports on each motherboard and still can't differentiate what would be best for me. I don't plan to overclock but I would like to undervolt (if that's possible) because I've heard that they run pretty hot and I'll only be running an AK620 air cooler inside of a Meshify 2 Compact.

I'm just curious as to what the best bang for my buck motherboard would be at this stage. I'm looking to spend MAX $250 and don't want to cheap out and buy something not great. And I live near a Micro Center so if anything I'd be willing to pay $30 to have them do the bios flashback for me (if needed). I've been eying the MSI MAG B760 Tomahawk Wifi DDR5 but with B760 boards being new and all I'm not too knowledgeable on all of the risks/negatives associated with them and would really hate to have to assemble everything and then find out it it's crap.

I'm not really too familiar with VRMs and all that but I've read it's pretty important to find a mobo with good VRMs. I'm just looking for some insight as to what the best option for me would be because I can't seem to find it on my own. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

r/buildapc on Reddit: Best option for NAS i3-14100: Z690 vs B760
April 28, 2024 -

Effectively looking to run an 8 bay NAS with one of these boards using the i3-14100. My desire is to be able to undervolt the CPU to minimize power consumption.

No need for GPU as I will be using the Intel iGPU. So I am primarily looking for a low power build with reasonable expansion options. I have everything else chosen and bought except for motherboard:

  • i3-14100 CPU

  • 32GB (2x16GB) Crucial Pro DDR5

  • 1TB WD Blue SN580 M.2 SSD

  • Seasonic Focus 650 Gold (or maybe Super Flower Leadex III 550W 80+ Gold)

My two motherboard options I've narrowed it down to:

  • Asrock Z690M PG Riptide D5

  • ASUS Prime B760M-A AX

I do like that that B760 has four PCIe slots (16x, 4x, 1x, 1x) and has six onboard SATA ports, although I am intending to use an add-in SAS/SATA board for the hard drives. Unsure what VRM on this board though.

The Z690 board has three PCIe slots (16x, 4x, 1x) and four onboard SATA ports. Plus has PCIe 5.0, although more or less a non-issue for my use. It also has 13 Phase Dr.MOS, but not sure if this is jut marketing or a better option?

The B760M is ~ $60 more expensive than the Z690M. I'd prefer the Asrock from a cost perspective but if the Asus manages undervolting and lower power overall, probably be worth it plus added bonus of the two extra SATA ports and extra PCIe slot.

Any suggestions on which would likely be the best option for lowest power and undervolting potential?

Thanks.

so, where i live the ASUS TUF GAMING Z690-PLUS D4, DDR4 is the same price as the TUF Gaming B760M-PLUS WIFI D4. which one is better for an i5 12600k with a 4070?

well, first and foremost, will you be manually overclocking? if so, then the tuf z690 board will be better than the tuf b760m. the z690 is equipped with 14(80A) power stages vs the 12(50A) power stages of the tuf b760m. it's completely fine to run the 12600k on both boards. but i only mention this if you are trying to manually overclock, the z690 will be more stable. i personally am using the tuf z690 d4 plus wifi. it's a great board. easy to use bios. very attractive. lots of expansion. i was able to get my 12900k pretty stable at 5.2 p core oc + 4.1 e core oc at a reasonable voltage. my main gripe, is the ram overclocking is unstable. on my previous msi board, i was able to get my crucial ballistix 3600mhz ddr4 cl16 up to 4400mhz cl18 fine. on this tuf board, nope. anyways, pick whatever you will find more useful. both will run your 12600k + 4070 fine. the z690 is atx form factor vs the b760m is microatx. atx usually is equipped with more components/expansion. memory wise, both are stated they can use up to ddr4 5333mhz, though i would take that with a grain of salt as i'm sure there's very little ddr4 options that can be stable. when it comes to storage expansion, the z690 has 4x m.2 slots + 4x sata ports. the b760m only has 2x m.2 slots + 4x sata ports. not that big a deal, but i personally say if i'm buying for longevity, it's always nice to have more to avoid changing boards down the line to one that has more expansion. i personally have filled all 4x m.2 slots + 3x sata ports. pcie wise, both have pcie x16 5.0 slots, but the z690 has an additional 4x pcie slots whereas the b760m has 2x. not too big deal breaker, but if you're trying to do stuff like additional gpu or sound card or whatever else, it may be seen as a negative. networking wise, both have capability for 2.5g ethernet, but the b760m you listed edges out the z690 with wifi. the b760m is equipped with capability for wifi 6 out the box. unless you get the z690 tuf plus wifi, your regular tuf z690 plus that you listed does not have out the box wifi capability. usb wise, the tuf z690 is better equipped; not by a lot, but still better. the z690 rear i/o is all usb 3.2 whereas the b760m is a mix of usb 2.0 + 3.2. both have type c rear but z690 has 2x whereas b760m has 1x. both share the same front usb 2.0 + 3.2 + thunderbolt headers. same audio 7.1 codec so that's a wash.

The GPU will perform the same on either of them. The CPU will perform the same as well if you're just running it at stock. The Z690 will allow you to overclock the CPU and maybe give better options for undervolting.

I heard, 14th Gen intel cpu could be the last to be supported by Z790. So, that means going with z790 I will not be having option to upgrade cpu.
now, If that is true and I am not after DDR5, is it perfect to opt for B760 + i7 13700k with DDR4 or there is something more in Z790 I am not knowing??

B760 is $100 cheaper than Z790

pls enlighten me as early as possible going to buy in 1 hour.

Budget is around 1600 but would prefer to go lower. I'm currently planning to build a computer for 1080p ultra 100+ fps along with production, music, and AV1 streaming, hence why I'm going with the 4070 over the 6950xt. However, I'm stumped on my motherboard choice, between the b760, a z690, and a z790. Id be paying $80 extra for the latter two and the extra nvme slots are nice, but i have no exerience overclocking so im not sure if the features would even be worth it. I need around 7 usb ports and there's an option for a z790 thomahawk with better io than the z690 for $20 more so maybe that's another option? I would appreciate any advice on which to choose, or even on the other components. Thank you so much

Baseline: MSI MAG B760 Tomahawk

+$80 MSI MAG Z690 Tomahawk

+$80 GIGABYTE Z790 GAMING X AX

It may be a bias based on my personal experience but I struggled for weeks trying to tweak a 13600k on a TUF B760.

Bad voltage stability and spikes. Insta-throttling and low benches performance, while B760 is capable to handle a 13600k on the paper.

The black friday gave me the opportunity to try a Z690 Unify.

Out of the box (no xpm) it performed better with 20°C less under load, total stability and lower auto-voltage (by default, no undervolted yet).

System:

  • Corsair DDR5 6GHz xpm

  • Samsung 980 pro 2TB

  • Thermalright Phantom Spirirt SE

  • iChillx3 4070

  • a rusty huge old case with a DVD reader.

TL;DR You may need a good z690/z790 (no B760 or H770) for a 13600k even without overclock.

I recently saw that the Z(690/790) motherboards are overclock-friendly with the CPU, is it silly to have a B760/ will it cost me a lot of performance?

Purpose: for gaming, streaming, video editing

GPU: RTX 4070 ti super

budget for mobo: preferably 10K<, pero kung z690 maganda ok lang

No plan to OC

I got myself an i5 14600k and wanted to ask if there is going to be any meaningful performance difference between these chipsets. I mainly use the pc for gaming and my GPU is an old GTX 1080. Also I’m not planning on using any m2 ssd; only SATA. Also is there any real performance difference between different Mainboards of the same chipset (for example ASUS Prime Z790-A WIFI and MSI MAG Z790 Tomahawk WIFI) with the same Chipset due to different VRM power phases? I also thought about watercooling as my Thermaltake PA 120 gets really loud and the CPU throttles. Any help is appreciated as all the online tests about this topic use crazy CPUs like Intel Core i9
