r/Amd on Reddit: No one wants to buy AMD’s Zen 4 chips – what’s going on?
January 4, 2023 - Double the cost of AM4, 50% higher than existing LGA1700. Mandatory DDR5, another added cost. While most people already have DDR4, which works with Zen 3, 12th and 13th gen. Performance uplift isnt impressive. AMD refused to even compare Zen 4 to the 5800x3D, and Zen 4 loses to 13th gen in gaming.

AMD Zen 4: Everything You Need to Know
October 8, 2022 - One of the biggest changes coming with Zen 4 is that the AM4 socket in use since 2016 (yes, it's had an unusually long lifespan) is going away.

September 27, 2022 - One thing the additional pins allow for is more power delivery—from a rated maximum of 142 W for AM4 to a maximum of 242 W for AM5. This also lets AMD increase the TDP ratings of newer Ryzen CPUs, from 105 W to 170 W. These power ceilings ...

AMD Might Be Considering Ryzen 'Zen 4' Desktop CPUs With DDR4 Compatibility For Existing AM4 Motherboards
June 20, 2022 - All things considered, AMD has already announced that Zen 4 CPUs, either Ryzen or EPYC, will only feature support for DDR5 memory so this means that there's no DDR4 IMC on the Zen 4 core. If the red team was to bring Zen 4 on the existing AM4 motherboards, then it would have to make special variants of the chip that house the necessary DDR4 IMC as AM4 is an all-DDR4 platform.

Inside the AMD Zen 4 CPU architecture - Custom PC
November 16, 2023 - Countering this increase in maximum TDP, AMD is also introducing an Eco Mode that can be used to limit the CPUs TDP to 105W or even 65W, although obviously this impacts peak performance, with boosted clock speeds dropping to below 5GHz at 105W and to under 4GHz at 65W in our testing. Nevertheless, we found that we could still get fantastic performance from our Ryzen 7 7700X test chip with Eco mode enabled, as you can see in our guide on how to overclock an AMD Ryzen 7000 CPU. What will need an upgrade if you want to buy one of these CPUs is your motherboard, as the new chips use a new socket. Out is the pin grid array (PGA) socket of AM4 - where the pins are on the CPU - and in is a land grid array (LGA) layout where the motherboard plays host to the pins and the CPU has flat gold contact points.

June 28, 2022 - The site says that such a construction—Zen 4 on AM4—would be very difficult because the AM5 socket is an LGA with a lower bottom height, yet the same top height as AM4's PGA socket.

November 23, 2022 - AMD has said that Zen 4 chips will top out at 16 cores and 32 threads at launch, just like the previous-gen Ryzen 5000 series. AMD has told us that AM5 will be a similarly long-lived socket as we saw with AM4, so it's possible we could see higher ...

July 5, 2024 - My 3950X clocked highest on cores 4 and 5. Both are also on the first CCD. This is a curious pattern. Perhaps AMD is only binning one CCD to hit the maximum boost clocks on 16 core parts. Our Zen 4 and Zen 3 chips also see less clock speed variation than our Zen 2 chip.

AMD's Zen 4 architecture comes to Ryzen 7000 Series laptop CPUs
January 5, 2023 - Since then, we’ve seen five more generations of Ryzen chips and four subsequent Zen architectures. The latest of these is Zen 4, which makes its debut on the Ryzen 7000 Series. However, that doesn’t mean that all of the latest CPUs use the new architecture.

September 16, 2025 - While the 7400F lacks integrated graphics, it is a noticeably better processor, boasting a 400MHz higher base clock and boost clock, and 32MB of L3 cache. It could be argued that the Ryzen 5 7400 has more in common with the Ryzen 5 8500G, which has just 16MB of L3 cache, integrated graphics, and six cores, though those cores consist of Zen 4 and Zen 4c cores.

It is said that socket AM5 support is planned as 'through 2025+', but unlike the AM4 days, + is added after the year. It seems to have been added due to the uncertainty of when AM5 will be adopted, but as it is stated that it is confirmed until 2025, Zen 4 confirmed from the announcement of CES 2022 and Zen 5 revealed in the official roadmap, as well as the yet unknown Zen 5's next micro Up to the architecture, it is highly likely to be adopted as AM5.
