Seems like we've been waiting forever for Ryzen 7840U laptops, but they're still nowhere to be found. Is it even worth waiting anymore if I need a laptop soon?
Guys,
Up until now I still don't understand why there's not so much options for Zen4 laptop ?

I am considering buying a new slim laptop with AMD CPU and integrated AMD GPU before September 2023. I would like to upgrade from an Intel i7-8550u+NVIDIA MX150 laptop built in 2018, so Zen 3+ would already be a significant upgrade for me, but I am mainly uncertain about how much performance gain a Zen 4 laptop CPU is expected to have compared to the current Zen 3+ CPUs. The laptop Zen 4 CPUs haven't been announced, so this makes things less clear, but from the comparison between Zen 3 and Zen 4 desktop CPUs the IPC increase is moderate (~13%) while performance-per-watt seems to improve a lot at lower TDP. Also, the 7nm process to 5nm process change is likely to bring efficiency gains. Are these information I gathered accurate? Given the current performance and efficiency comparison between Zen 3 and Zen 4 desktop CPUs, would it be better for me to wait for Zen 4 CPU laptops if I am not in a hurry? I also have another alternative laptop with Intel 11gen GPU, and I felt quite regretted when finding Intel 12gen has significantly increased performance compare to a regular year-to-year update, so I do not want similar things to happen again...
My search re: zen 4 gave 2 results and I gleaned a bit from this https://www.reddit.com/r/laptops/comments/13ned9t/any_upcoming_ultrabooks_that_will_take_on_the_14/ but I just wanted to ask:
Do you think I should wait for upcoming zen 4 laptops - later this year - or go for current options? I know they won't replace a dGPU but I think they'll be better and cooler. I'd like to think they'll be a step up re: running quiet when pushed. Also, I want usb 4.0 and I'm not sure if that's available on a broad basis yet.
Cheers,
Mac
Hi everyone,
I want to change my notebook and I wanted to buy something with no dGPU so I was looking for and AMD laptop.
I wanted to know if there is any ryzen 5/ryzen 7 APU based on Zen4 and RDNA3 out yet. If not, there is some rumor about timing and performance?
Bonus points if you can provide good sources to read from.
Are there any chances that Zen 4 laptops will be widely available by September 2023?
I have been looking for a powerful but thin 16 inch laptop i travel alot for work and i want to hear ur guys suggestions on what i should get im really looking forward on the lenovo legion 7 pro 8th gen but i cant manage to get one amyways would love ur guys opinion on what o should get thats all...
Lenovo legion slim 7 and 5 are coming with ryzen 9 and 7 7940hs cpus.
There seems to be supply issues though. Hopefully they release by June
well I was looking for the same (basically I'm looking for a 7745HX with a rtx 4080 mobile), but this doesn't seem to exist
lenovo legion pro 15 is stuck to 4070 only, and no other small laptop with 7x45HX
the only good laptop is the scar 17 but it is too big
dunno why more legion pro with 4080 (and eventually 4080) are not available while the intel versions exist
what the heck is up with the prices of these laptops? I searched price engines in Europe and cheapest sku of the new g14 with 16g rams and rtx 4060 is 2500 euros, even the asus tuf16 is 1700-2000 euros and the 4080 version of the g14 is 4000 euros. who are these meant for? seems to be they increased the price by like 30% between two generations.
Sorry, perhaps a little rant on my end included. I had been targeting a new mainly for (portable) productivity Zen 4 (4-6nm) 8core / high ram (32GB+) / midrange discrete GPU laptop (suitable mainly for powering 3-4x 4k monitor) since spring. I am not complete stranger to Zen platform, but even the new numbering scheme and etc., is completely confusing. To me, it feels like AMD is intentionally muddying the water between 4nm and older fabs/platforms. I had horrible experience with HP Omen AMD previously, are there suitable offerings from Lenovo (or Asus) now? Thanks.
Is there anything like that released yet?
Why so many still only have 16 GB of RAM?
Am shopping for a Zen 4 Laptop and compiled all the info I could find so far on what laptops have the Ryzen 7840U (or similar)
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ap-mGyrNt723EO5v3B1nCW44R0XVMmOATpR-VZAXNgs/edit?usp=sharing
Happy to turn this spreadsheet into a crowdsourced repository of all the laptops that are coming out with the Zen 4 chips! Just drop comments below (if new laptops come out, or if you manage to find some of the information that's missing from the spreadsheet). I'll be regularly updating this spreadsheet (at least until I actually find a laptop to purchase haha) so hopefully it becomes a useful resource for anyone else searching for Zen 4 Laptops.
Let me know if there's any other info that should be included too.
Since Zen4 is right around the corner, should we wait on buying laptops with the AMD Ryzen 9 6900HS and get the Zen4 generation in 1-2 months (is this even realistic, that the manufacturer will be that fast?). Or just get the chips available right now?
I don't know what model of Zen 2 I have, so I just put that as my flair.
I have a laptop that has a Zen 2 CPU (Ryzen 5825U). I'm going to get a new one that uses Zen 4 Architecture (Ryzen 7 8840U). Now, my question is, what difference is it? Obviously, the iGPU is better, and the clock speeds are way faster, but what is the noticeable difference? Better Temp control? Stronger Processing Power? What're the massive changes?
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/6YfVYd - Here is my list with parts that I want to buy and parts that I have already purchased.
I have the 7800X3D in there right now, but I'm wondering if I should go with an AM5 chip instead, like the 9700X. I would save a little bit of money with the 9700X (buying new), and they're both 8-core CPUs. Should I go with the 7800X3D instead in order to take advantage of 3D V-cache? I'm going to be playing modern AAA games on my system, like Flight Sim 2024, and I'd like for my 3080 10GB to finally be the bottleneck in my PC.
Ryzen 5 7430U vs Ryzen 7 7840U
Almost double the price
I'm sure when it comes to performance & igpu zen 4 is better, but is the difference really substantial?
And what about efficiency? Low power is my priority.
