I have been using the Core 6k deck for learning Japanese and I'm really enjoying it. When I first started learning English, I learned my vocabulary just by exposure to reading practice. I got to a comfortable level of fluency, and according to a particular online test, I know about 10,000 words. However, I really wish I could expand my vocabulary and reinforce some of the most common words that sometimes I have trouble with.
Is there a good Anki deck of English words with pronunciation?
There are several good courses and apps to get started in a language. My favorite is something like Assimil which effortlessly teaches you 1-2k words with the help of dialogs. But even a slower app like Duolingo can give you a strong footing which allows you to transition to graded readers and native content.
But every now and then I see people on here who reason like this:
The 1000 most common words will get you to 80% text coverage. So in order to get to consuming native content as fast as possible, it is important to learn those top 1000 words by heart using flashcards (Anki or Memrise).
What a huge waste of time!
The 1000 most common words are so called for a reason. They are the most common words. They are in everything and everywhere. They repeat all the time. In fact they repeat so often that you do not need to spend any extra effort learning them by heart.
This deck is based on the Core English Vocabulary. it's built in high quality & well design that let you focus on practical high-frequency words that is usually used in everyday life situations with hundred of English examples.
