Federal estimated taxes for 2023 (Form 1040-ES)
Your federal income tax withholding (box 2 of your W-2) is treated as an estimated tax payment for the purposes of determining whether you paid the required estimated tax installments or owe a penalty for underpayment of estimated taxes. See IRC § 6654(g)(1).
However, you do NOT enter withholding on your 1040 in the space for estimated tax payments. Form 1040 has a special box just for withholding, do not enter the withholding twice.
By default, 25% of your total annual withholding is treated as an estimated tax payment on each of the 4 due dates. You can change the default by filling out Form 2210 and filing it with your tax return at the end of the year.

New 1040 form for older adults
The IRS has a tax filing form for people 65 and older [PDF, 171KB]. It is an easier-to-read version of the 1040 form. It has bigger print, less shading, and features like a standard deduction chart. The form is optional and uses the same schedules, instructions, and attachments as the regular 1040.
