I’m trying to help a family member with managing their passwords, and as a 1password user myself, I thought why not use this app?

Upon downloading though, it asked me to pay a subscription fee—something that I never did before.

What concerns me is how am I able to use 1password and its features with no restrictions (I have about 94 accounts stored in there)

From what I remember (could be wrong), 1Password was a free app years ago, and I was using it since that time.

I dont necessarily have a 1password account, but it seems like my current vault is synced with my iCloud (or appstore) account.

I tried downloading 1password like I said on a family member’s phone, but the option to sync through iCloud was also locked behind a paywall.

Is my account somehow “lucky” in a sense that I was a pioneer user and got upgraded free? or did something go wrong on 1password’s developer’s end?

Been using it for years and have never paid, not that I'm against it. I was surprised to learn there even was a subscription version. Am going to be charged at some point? I don't see a free version being advertised on their site at all.

Anyone using 1Password MSP yet? The 5 free MSP licenses seems to good to be true... is there a catch here? Minimum spend / customers or something. Still waiting to hear back from 1Password support but interested to hear from anyone that's actually using them.

I've been using 1Password for probably over a decade and I have friends in need of a password keeper.

We are 100% against subscription models and thus we need something new.

It's disappointing that the standalone license is no longer offered, but I guess it is what it is.

My company has last pass and I even get a free family last pass account. But after the breach and everything I have heard, I'm not sure if that's worth it. Should I just use 1password?

Any other alternative? Like Google password manager or Samsung password manager? Or should I use those as backups?

Long-time Bitwarden user here — after the UI refresh, I really have nothing to complain about (the old UI was my only minor "issue").

That said, my wife's workplace just enabled a free 1Password Families account for all employees.

I don't have anything against 1Password, and while I truly love Bitwarden, I'm wondering: would you consider making the switch in this situation?

I'm posting here intentionally because I have no issues with Bitwarden — just looking for honest advice from other users who might have faced something similar. Thanks in advance!

I recently learned that 1Password wasn't free. This was news to me. I've been using 1Password on my iPhone for years, but I've never had to pay anything. I only use it on my iPhone if that matters. Was there ever a free version? Is my app bugged and it has let me use it for free all these years? Am I missing any features by not paying?

I hate to feel like I'm stealing, but it's also hard to imagine it would allow me to use it for free if it's not supposed to be.

I’ve been using 1P for years. At the time I initially set it up on my iPhone, iOS password manager didn’t exist. 1P had the best way to keep passwords synced across all my devices - by using Dropbox. This however, required me to pay for Dropbox, which I did, and the data got saved into a Dropbox folder for connected apps.

Flash forward a number of years. I am still using the free 1Password app across my devices, with primary vault in a paid dropbox account. This syncs fine across devices, but is read-only everywhere (using 1P7) except for on my iPhone app.

My question: Is it normal that my unpaid iPhone app can still write new passwords to my primary vault stored on Dropbox?

I would love to get 1P to read/write on other devices as well, but I’m reticent to pay for a subscription when it was 1Password that forced me to subscribe to Dropbox in the first place - which is still my primary use for my paid Dropbox account (although I do share modestly-sized files once in a blue moon because it’s available).

Anyone have advice on how they would move forward? It would be much appreciated.

I've been looking to switch to a cheaper alternative of 1Password, but I don't seem to find anything that has all the features that 1Password has, probably gonna keep it but wanted to check if you guys know any. Must haves for me are Autofill, built in 2FA and autofill for 2FA codes. If anything comes to mind, please do let me know!

I know this is an old topic. But I still want to share my opinion, to see if anybody has the same thoughts like i do.

I'm a 1Password user since the beginning, it changed the way I manage my passwords. I upgrade every new version, until they change the business model.

For "Mac Only" user like me, I don't have any chance to use windows and linux as my operating system, And I will definitely not store my vaults in any cloud storing service except iCloud (I really give absolute trust on Apple). So here is the thing, in my circumstances, I don't think that it's worthy to pay $36 per year, because I don't use the cloud service provided by 1Password at all while there are so many alternative options out there (like bitwarden, self hosted). And I feel like I'm paying the service that I don't need, and supporting others who needed it ( don't judge).

Also, I think that 1Password team has realized that there is not much features that they can add to this software, and there are so desperately to get more money get more steady and recurring income from there users, that they do not offer any alternative upgrade options for people like me (the mac user with no need to using 1Password on other platforms).

I have no problem with subscription services, I paid for my VPS and other services monthly or annually, I just don't like the way 1Password team do it, it feels like blackmailing.

BTW, I don't think that they will have the impulses to innovate, add great features to this software, with the recurring income, all the necessary is release security patches, bug fixes version, because as long as it is secured, it keep the business running.

What do you guys think about it?

BTW, I found it interesting that many people (including myself) don't trust enpass, which is the cheapest alternative, for only $10 one time charge per user per mobile platform and free for all desktop operating system, just because it is too cheap.

I am a Bitwarden user, and since I did the 1Password trial I am tempted to come to this password service. Being user of the Apple devices, this is what I like the most about service:

- Unlock 1P with Apple Watch being in my Mac.

- A more beautiful UI, with the feeling of all being more polished.

- It has the options I like the most about Bitwarden, so no pain in changing.

But, the problem is that Bitwarden costs 10 euro per year, and 1Password is much more expensive. So this is why I decided to come here, to ask the users of the services about other things that maybe I dont know, services or options that could be a convincing point for moving here.

I've been a 1Password users since it's inception in 2006. What a great app that was back in the days! Simple, easy-to-use, powerful. But now it seems that the app has lost its way and has become bloatware. The move to Electron and now it's inclusion of managing crypto and NFTs has really shaken my confidence in this app and the team behind it.

Are there any alternatives to 1Password for the Mac that allow you to manage passwords across multiple Apple devices?

Hello guys. I need some opinion/advice about switching to 1Password. I am currently using Dashlane as my password manager and Authy as my 2FA OTP manager.

Dashlane has been unreliable in terms of autofilling on websites/phone apps. Although it stores everything nicely, it doesn't automatically pop-up when it's needed the most and I have to manually go to the app and copy the password to paste it.

The nice thing about DL is the pricing. I am paying ₹249 ($2.99) /year for the family plan (supports 6 people) whereas if I move to 1Password, it will cost me ₹620 ($7.44) /month which as you can see is quite the price hike (it's almost similar to the standard Netflix plan in my country).

I am contemplating mainly due to these two reasons but I haven't been able to decide yet. Is Dashlane reliable in terms of autofilling on the apps/websites? Is it worth for the price?

Hi all! Current Dashlane user here - Considering making the switch to 1Password for a few reasons:

• Vaults: DL doesn't currently have vaults and/or centralized family sharing. That offering is reserved for Business users.

• My general hopes for future improvement: Fluffy reason here, but I have greater future expectations for 1Password due to the massive VC funding and larger team compared to DL.

• Password sharing for non-users: The fact that 1Password makes it easy to share your logins securely with folks outside of 1Password is pretty astounding to me. Seems like a feature that plays to the users' benefit at their own cost (losing potential converts due to incompatibility). I'm tired of texting friends/family with passwords that they've forgotten, so this sounds great.

• Watchtower: 1P has better features here - more nuanced password reviews, 2FA enablement tracking, etc.

All that said, I have some serious hang-ups about making the switch:

• I love how easy Dashlane makes auto-fill: DL's software does handsfree login by default for all websites. It works like magic... you can just sit there and sip your coffee while the software does all of the logging in for you as soon as you hit the website. This is especially important to my wife and elderly mother.

• Simplicity and portability: As far as I can tell, it's going to be very easy to move from DL to 1P because DL only offers a few fixed fields for each login. On that note, I do like DL's simple, clean design. However, because of all of 1P's custom fields, it's not nearly as easy to move from 1P back to DL. So, I would want to be 100% certain that 1P is the best long-term option for me and my family.

• 1Password's app store reviews: They're not very good - 2.7 stars at the time that I'm writing this. Sure, it's a smaller # of reviews due to the recent v8 release, but is this representative of the true user experience? The cynic in me thinks that the only reason so many Tech gurus and YouTubers are recommending 1P is the VC-backed promotion incentives. People of Reddit - Is your experience actually that great?

1Password was always on a league of its own on the mac and it deserved the price, now it’s all like the other apps.

I understand the 1P8 is better on the other platforms, but the mac has always been the mac and deserves it’s own native client. Be it an AppKit app or a Catalyst app made from the iPad version.

I’m a software engineer too and I know the trade offs of cross platform clients. Companies make more money and users get a worse deal and an even worse UX.

As you can already see, many of us are seriously pissed by the move to Electron, the degrading of the current experience, the new memory usage, the usability problems and the non native feeling.

And no, we don’t want you to make a better Electron app, we want you to continue to build on the native app.

If that’s not going to happen, you leave us no other option but to cancel our subscriptions and leave. If I’m getting a bad password manager, at least I’m getting a cheaper one with your competitors.

If you feel my message is disrespectful, know this. We too feel disrespected, disappointed and betrayed.

You can do better than this.

Does 1password offer lifetime subscription or any website providing a lifetime membership for 1Password?
