Hi everyone. I was looking for 2 in 1 laptop that fit these requirements:-
• Portable
• Has a stylus for drawing
• Windows OS and fast enough for everyday task like Blender (non rendering), Photoshop/Clip Studio, web browsing and watching videos
So far I have found:-
• Acer Spin 5.
• Samsung Galaxy Book3 Pro 360
• Lenovo Yoga 9i Gen 8
Anyone has tried the above laptops before? How does it feel? Would you recommend it?
Not many laptop reviews say more than a few words about the stylus/digitiser functionality. So I wanted to ask a community who would know how they'd rank the major brands on this (Windows only).
I'm looking to buy a used 2 in 1 as a travel computer. One thing I want is a good writing experience for note taking and annotating. So knowing about the brands in general is helpful, but if anyone has experience with the specific models I've looked at I'd love to hear about it.
Samsung: Galaxy Book 2 360, Flex 2 5g
Lenovo: Thinkpad X13 Yoga Gen 2/3, X1 Yoga Gen 6, X1 Yoga Titanium Gen 1 (maybe Thinkbook 14s G2 or one of the Yoga 7/9 models?)
Also considering Dell, HP, and Asus. I've looked at the Surface, but for the same kind of price as the above I'd be looking at a 7 Pro, which seems comparatively outdated

An older person at work is transitioning from writing regular notes and reports via pen to a digital environment. They aren't really tech-savvy. My idea was to get them a 2-in-1 laptop so they could just continue writing as they were and use programs to turn handwriting to actual text.
Does anyone have experience with this setup? Is it tolerable to write on 2-in-1 laptops for extended periods of time? A lot of apps have the ability to draw in them (i.e. Notes), but some handwriting to text seems to be hit or miss. Also if anyone has info about support for non-English character languages or Cyrillic would be nice
Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
£1300Are you open to refurbs/used?
Yes - As long as device is in excellent/ Very good condition with little battery degradationHow would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Must be a 2-in-1 with decent battery life. Preferably at a core i7 or Ryzen 7 performance level. Preference for 12th gen intel (for performance) or 6000 series Ryzen (for RDNA 2 igpu and efficiency)How important is weight and thinness to you?
Preference would be that the device is somewhat thin and light, but not overly concerned if other requirements are met.Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
Preferably 13-15 inchesAre you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Web browser (Chrome etc), Microsoft office suite (Excel and OneNote particularly), basic photo editingIf you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? 1080p resolution, medium settings in Minecraft, FIFA, Rocket League
Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
I would like to be able to write notes on this device, so good palm rejection/ hand writing experience with a stylus/ active pen. Good battery life that lasts around 6 hours of mixed use (writing using stylus, web browsing, watching YT/Netflix, using Microsoft office suite)Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
Ideal device would be a surface pro w/ 16gb RAM and Ryzen 6800u processor and at 512gb SSD /nvme. That would be the dream combination of form factor, performance and battery life that I’m looking for but it doesn’t exist.
In summary: Good battery life (>6 hrs of real world use) Good Pen support/ experience Ryzen 6000 series preferred for igpu and efficiency
Thanks
Hello, I want to buy my first e-divice primarily for thaking notes and maybe a little graphic design. First of all, I choose 2in1 laptop because it is basically the same price as tablet or e-ink tablet, but with greater performance and probably will be in use longer. I was basically wondering between: Lenovo ThinkPad X13 gen 2 (i7 10th gen) Lenovo yoga 7 (i7 11th gen) Microsoft SurfacePro 7 (i7 10th gen) Dell latitude 5310 2-in-1 (i7 10th gen) And while on performance they are pretty much the same, I was wondering how they compare for drawing/note taking and writing experience overall. Is the screen more important or the stylus. How big is the difference? I am planning to be using it for several ours a day writing.
Location - US Budget - $1.5k max Use - embroidery digitizing (Inkscape, Ink/Stitch)
I purchased an embroidery machine about 6 months ago and I’m starting to understand how important it is to have really good digitized embroidery files. Now that I’m getting the hang of it, it’s time to switch from creating my designs in Procreate on my iPad Pro and transferring them to my PC, to getting the job done strictly on a laptop. It would remove a lot of clunkiness and extra steps, and cut down the time to create a file tremendously!
I come to you looking for a laptop with great stylus pen precision. I’m a little spoiled with the iPad stylus and the capability to take it anywhere, so it would be helpful if I can find something to a similar quality. I’m avoiding plug-in drawing pads for PC, and if I can, I’d like to avoid a laptop that only can use basic squishy tip pens. I am no graphics designer, but I’m sure a lot of you can relate to how many nodes need adjusted exactly where they need to be in a tiny area, and it’s crucial for embroidery files since one minor out of place node can cause thread nesting, broken needles, and a terrible result to the finished product.
A 2-in-1 laptop that includes a good configured stylus would be ideal… what led me to this decision was because Inkscape does not have an app, and because mouse and keyboard is not my strong suit artistically. Also, the last time I embroidered a patch, it was on the machine for about 85 minutes and suddenly a capital E that was stitched turned into what looked like Chain Chomp from Mario 64 from the front and back of the fabric. Honestly, it was my fault that it happened and I had zero cool when I saw it, but I chalked it up to not having a stylus. It was a dramatic moment but that tipping point has now brought me here. (I’m fine now btw lol)
Thanks!
My computer is a 4 years old Surface Pro 7 Windows tablet that I enjoy, but its battery life is currently around 1.5 hours even with minimal load. Even brand new, its battery life was my #1 complaint. So while I don't have a current critical need, I'd like a few option to keep an eye on for great sales. The best candidates I've found so far seems to be around Lenovo Yoga 7i and HP Envy, but I'm pretty ignorant as far as laptop go so I'd happily accept recommendations!
MUST
- Pen support: I need proper pen support. It doesn't have to be professional-tier, but it should be at least reasonable (My Surface Pro 7 fit the Microsoft pen 1 fitting there). Big bonus if there's actually a convenient way to carry the pen with it.
- Good battery life: I'm very rarely using my devices near a power outlet, and miserable battery life is my #1 complaint with my current computer.
- Windows: There's some things that are Windows-only that I want to use it on.
- 2-1 flipable laptop or separable tablet: I use the pen enough that I really want to be able to have the device in 'tablet' mode. I like the Surface form factor but I believe that good battery life with a Windows tablet doesn't exist, so I'm willing to branch out to a 2-1 360 hinged laptop.
- 16 gb Ram: I want to use it for multiple years; 8 seems not 'future proof' enough, and 32 feels way overkill.
Secondary considerations
- Screen brightness: I use my devices with very low brightness when indoors, but I also use them outdoors which requires a lot higher brightness. It's not a must since I can use other devices outdoors, but it'd be a big plus if it's at least usable under shade outdoors.
- Performance and light gaming: My Surface Pro 7 is sufficient for the majority of things I want to do with it. So if it's at least slightly better than my Surface Pro 7 i5-1035, I'd likely be fine with it for quite some time.
- Price: I know it obviously won't be cheap and I don't want something that'd just belong in the dump 6 months later, but I don't want to pay multiple thousands of dollars either for a beastly machine since it'd be basically wasted on me.
I don't care about the screen refresh rate (60 hz is perfectly fine with me), I don't need perfect rgb coverage (I don't do professional work) and I don't need to run AAA games at all or run games in general on High settings.
What are your recommendations that wouldn't be junk yet wouldn't be overkill for my needs? I'm not biased toward any brands, and I'd happily take multiple recommendations so that I can keep my eyes peeled for a great deal on one of them.
Thank you very much!
Hey guys, so my mac and ipad both died and I wanted to buy a 2-1 laptop. My main priorities are :
-
Long Batter hours
-
Great pen functioning
-
Able to do tasks like excel, coding, power BI, and those without lagging
-
durability and realiability
Im going to be using it for note taking at university and for work (finance type stuff and coding)
I have some options and was wondering what you guys though about:
Yoga Book 9i
Surface pro 9
HP Elite Dragon Fly
Dell XPS Plus
Cheers!!
So I'm planning to buy a new laptop for my 2d animation work and digital drawing (hobby). Currently my set up is a laptop + display tablet, but I really need to be mobile since I move around a lot. If there isn't any good laptop that has pen pressure support, then can anyone recommend a laptop that has pen support for animation work? 1500 USD would be my budget, but can go higher for really good specs. The one I have my eye on right now are the Lenovo Yoga laptops (still researching what is the best for me in this series).
Like I had my school laptop and I have never EVER used the touchscreen besides doing something gimmicky. I mean if your a artist or teacher I understand but, a LOT of people want this ability for some reason??? I just don’t understand why. Fine, I lied, I actually used the touchscreen to open tabs. But that was when I didn’t have a mouse. I got my own laptop now and like it seems so stupid. Why waste money for a function you aren’t going to use? If anyone actually uses a 2 in 1 post a reply below.
Edit: So basically everyone uses it to take notes etc. Should’ve expected that. I mean I use my iPad sometimes to take notes but a Laptop, for me is wayyyyy to big for that type of deal.
I wanted to buy a 2 in one laptop [ best if its detachable ] with pen under 1 lakh for study purposes . Iam studying Nursing Can someone help me . I don't know a thing abt laptops
Hi
Looking for a 2 in 1 laptop for school
-Under $1000
-At least 7th gen i5
- 12" - 13"
- At least 8GB ram
- 128GB SSD or greater
- Last over 6hrs for battery life
- 3:2 display ratio if possible
I have a surface pro 3 which I really like but have dropped a few times due to the kickstand and the small lecture desk at school. If it were not for the kickstand I would most likely be getting another surface pro as it is generally easy to write notes and is a good size. I also do some coding for school in c++ and java.
A similar device with a hinge would be nice. Thanks for suggestions.
Hi
Can anyone recommend a laptop with tablet and stylus functions/compatility?
Mainly using for study note taking, watching video lectures, teams, essays etc. But would like to be fairly capable.
Would also like to do a bit of drawing but this is desirable not essential.
I currently use a Galaxy Chromebook, which is almost perfect for my needs. I'm posting here because the Linux VM performance is really abysmal for me and installing native Linux is a pain on this device.
It has some other problems like battery life, but it does hit my main points of being a 2-in-1 (screen rotates 360 degrees) with nice build quality and internal stylus storage.
Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
The lower the better. I do not have a specific budget in mind. My current laptop is a Galaxy Chromebook that I got used for $400. I can see myself paying up to $2k for the right machine.
Are you open to refurbs/used?
Yes.
How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
I would like a 2-in-1 with good battery life and nice build quality. I especially want a nice keyboard.
How important is weight and thinness to you?
Unimportant.
Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
I want under 13.5" and under 13" is even better. I've had a 16:10 13.5" laptop and that was too big for me.
Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Just normal command line tools as well as Firefox and VS Code.
Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
A nice keyboard, 2-in-1 (screen that rotates 360 degrees), and 10+ hours of battery life are the most important to me. I also want internal stylus storage.
A reasonable GPU (for computing not gaming) and a fanless setup would be dream features. A slightly taller screen aspect ratio like 16:10 or 3:2 would be incredible too. OLED is also nice.
I got carried away looking up 2-in-1 laptop pen info in October 2023. Now I finally put the pieces together into a sort of article. Figured I should share it here! Might help someone

It’s mainly a one time thing for me, so I don’t plan on doing much upkeep on it, but if something is very off let me know :)
Hey everyone! I recently got an "HP Spectre x360 16-f2000na Convertible UHD+ OLED Laptop - Core™ i7 (2023)" and I couldn't get the hp mpp 2.0 pen as it's out of stock. Does anybody have any recommendations? Can a surface pen work with this laptop? Or would a pen like the wacom bamboo plus be better?
I am pretty happy with my current laptop/tablet (HP Elite x2), but there is a small thing bothering me: the pen. It isn't really good and worst of all it needs batteries as an energy source. Currently the tablet works perfectly, but I already bought it used, so it's likely that I have to buy a new one in like the next five years (hopefully not, but it's likely, looking at the increasing poor quality of tech). Does anybody have good recommendations for a similar laptop with the same functions but a rechargeable pen? It should have at least 8GB of memory, 256GB of saving space, Windows Operation system and a keyboard that is disconnectable with the screen. And of course a rechargeable pen and touchscreen. Does anybody has experience or recommendations for a device like this?
Edit: It also should be not to expensive, around 1000€ or less (less ideally)
The main programs I need to run are:
Solidworks
Autocad
Photoshop
I won't need photoshop for huge digital painting, just sketching with a few layers when I'm on the go.
Im slightly flexible on the price if it's something that will last me long enough until the start of my professional carrer.
I've considered the HP ENVY x360 15-ew0029nb but I'm not very knowledgeable in hardware and I'm not sure how good this is. If anyone can confirm this is a good choice or suggest other options I'm all ears.
