Hi, so im almost finished with my build and all thats left is the cpu (i got a 5070 ti), i do a little bit of work and i also game alot, my monitor runs 288 hz 1080 p and 144 hz 4k, i play competitive and casual singleplayer games so i figured this would be the monitor for me. But the thing is, i always see the argument "just get a 9800x3d/7800x3d" and i just cant see why is that, why doesnt anyone recommend a 7700x? The performance is not that different, in competitive games in 1080p it generates more frames than my monitor can actually show, why would i go for these expensive cpus if they are gonna make these frames that i wont actually see? Is there something im missing?

I've been Googling for an hour and I'm struggling to find a list of all AM5 CPUs that show the following information:

1. CPU name

2. Cores and Threads

3. Integrated Graphics

So the common wisdom for new AM5 builds seems to be either "get a 7600/X (whichever is cheaper) since it's perfectly fine in gaming" and simultaneously "the 7800X3D is one of the best gaming CPUs." I wanted to debate the options further (as I see them) and include the 7700 as well:

• 7600/X (~$215) relatively cheap 6 core part which gets you most of the gaming performance you want

• 7700/X (~$250) relatively inexpensive upgrade (+$35) to get 8 cores, 20% boost in benchmarks, probably not a huge improvement in gaming but nice for productivity

• 7800X3D (~$370) 8 cores plus the 3D cache, somehow not any help in its passmark score, but the cache seems to boost game fps by roughly 10-30% over the 7700/X

So that's the overview, and then my analysis of each:

• 7600/X -- cheapest of the 3 and should be "fine" while waiting for next-gen zen parts to release. But I'd be eyeing to upgrade it pretty quickly tbh based on next-gen zen rumors.

• 7700/X -- middle ground, gets 8 cores for productivity and future proofing, currently seems to be on sale for $250 (if that sale is still active), would avoid any possible thermal issues of the 7800X3D, really not much of a cost increase over the 7600 so could still be upgraded sooner without much regret, or not upgraded for a long time, probably with not much regret either.

• 7800X3D -- Assuming it has no thermal issues, one of the best gaming CPUs right now, gets 8 cores and the 3d cache which can boost some games more than 30% (which is crazy), but invests a lot in the current AM5 line, making an upgrade hurt more. And while they SEEM to not be melting down anymore, that still worries me as a possibility.

The $250 7700 sale made me really go back and look at all 3 of these options again. And was honestly leaning towards it. Would one be an idiot to NOT get the 3D cache 7800X3D for gaming now? Thoughts?
