I usually return via UPS pickup at my house since there aren't good dropoff options nearby. It is usually $0 for most reasons. Today, a couple different items I was returning showed $0 for all dropoff options but $7.99 for pickup options. I tested out all different reasons, and the cost didn't change based on reason. What's going on? Any way to get around this new charge?

Prime member here. Most times my free Amazon returns have the options of both the UPS Store drop-off and my local locker (both free) but occasionally those options do not appear. 4 of the 5 items I am returning gave the option for UPS Store drop-off but the 5th did not. Options for the 5th item are Amazon Store (2 hours away round trip, not an option), UPS drop-off (a big mailbox in a parking lot, $5.99) or UPS pickup ($11.99). Could someone please explain why this occurs? Yes, the local locker might be full but I cannot think of a single reason why UPS store would not be an option.
I worked it out with a 10 minute callback from customer service who agreed to send me a prepaid label but this is the second or third time I had to spend time on the phone to make what should be a free return. Anyone know why this is occurring?
I'm a Prime member and I returned a jacket that was too large. I chose that reason in the return process and was given the option of a free UPS pickup, which I chose. I got an email confirmation of the amount I would be refunded. Next day UPS comes to pick it up and later on I'm notified that my refund has been issued, but it's for $6 less than I should've gotten. I call Amazon and they keep saying that's how it works for a pick up. I explain that at no point was $6 mentioned in the return process, nor does the email confirmation's refund total match what I got. The rep contacts a supervisor who keeps saying the same thing. They offer a $5 coupon, which I turn down because I just want to know why I'm being charged without notification. After a hold, they finally decided to refund the $6, but still no explanation. So now on future orders I'll have to drop off at a UPS location to avoid the charge.
Is it possible you were charged a restocking fee for the item returned? This would be a separate charge, assessed apart from shipping.
They gave you the correct answer. Prime RETURNS are free. Pickups are not. You have an option to use USP drop off (which includes any UPS box, UPS store, or UPS depot). That's free. UPS is charging them to go to your house and pick it up. They are passing that on to you.
And it does say "charges may apply" when you select the return method, for pickup.
I bought a item off Amazon which was already in the same city as me, and i needed it returned back so i used the ups pickup feature off amazon which they say
Before UPS comes, securely pack your return. UPS will bring a prepaid label for your package. UPS will pick up your return package on the next business day. An adult must be present. If the first attempt fails, UPS will try again 2 more times on the next 2 business days.
However when ups came they never gave me no type of label or nothing they just came and too it, it has been 4 days now with no updates or tracking number the package was already in the same city as me when it was delivered to me so it should take 4 days for them to return it back. WHAT DO I DO?? Do i continue to wait and they will eventually give me a tracking number or do i start searching in public.
Wanted to return a gift by printing a label, boxing, and dropping off at nearby UPS Store. Noticed now they are starting to charge me $1. Is that because Amazon thinks I have made too many returns? I suppose I need to start diversifying my purchases. Bought the same items at Homedepot.com for the same price and faster free shipping. Rather give them the business if I have to return to a store.
