sometimes when i do amazon returns, i get people asking me where the stuff goes. i just say they go back to an amazon warehouse. what actually happens? do these returns just get thrown away in some big amazon landfill or do they get recycled and reused. i see so many nice things get returned (someone returned a vinyl for the Bad album by Michael Jackson today)

What the other poster said is correct, but sometimes some particular manufacturers actually pay to get their returns sent back to them. It's rare, but I purchased a cast iron replacement grill for my bbq, and when I sent it back, the actual manufacturer emailed me back saying that they saw the crack I reported, and wanted to send me a new one for free because they're a smallish startup, and word of mouth was important, and all they asked is that I would tell a friend about their customer service. I hadn't even left a bad review to remove or anything, just a business handling customer service the old fashioned way.

I don’t think we have return centres near where I live, but one thing we do have is building repurpose/urban renewal shops i.e., usable materials from home demolitions and renovations. I replaced a broken ceiling fixture with a 3 light flush mount for $10. I’ve replaced doors, bought tools and picked up gardening supplies for next to nothing. They’re a great place to find a faucet on the cheap! More on reddit.com

There is a store in Raritan (in the old Raritan Mall, off 206 heading towards Hillsborough) that seems to be what you’re talking about. The pic you link even looks exactly like what it looks like inside. Each day the items are all the same price, between $2-10. Can’t think of the name but will update later if I do. Google Maps isn’t showing it but it’s right next to the Dollar Tree. More on reddit.com

This is a "Bin Store" opened recently near me at Cave Creek & Bell Rd in north Phoenix. A few weeks ago, I had a few minutes to drive over and see what that's all about. Executive Summary: Skip it - not worth your time. How does this type of buisness operate? People return things to Amazon, and instead of shipping the defective or unwanted items back to the manufacturer, which is expensive, Amazon separates out all of the items below a certain value (say, everything under $20) and throws them in big boxes, which these bin stores snap up by the pound. So automatically, anything you would find in the bin at a bin store can't be worth more than $20, but they're banking on you being terrible at knowing the value of different items. For pricing, the bin store is closed 1 day a week when they re-stock. The first day after that, everything is $14. Then, as people pick through what's there, the price goes down a few dollars per day, leading up to the next re-stock day, when it resets back to $14. You're really better off treasure hunting at thrift stores, or bargaining with impatient sellers on OfferUp, if you are that kind of thrill seeker.

The other is through overstock items that Amazon can’t sell. I used to be an Amazon FBA seller (or fulfilled by Amazon), which meant I made my own products and sold them on Amazon. I had to send the items to the Amazon warehouse, and if they didn’t sell in a certain amount of time, I had the option to either take the items back of have them disposed of by Amazon.

Do any of you folks out there in Reddit land have these type stores ? These businesses buy huge quanities of Amazon returns and undeliverable boxes. On the first day of the week , everything in our store sells for $11.00 . Each day the price drops to a lower price. On the last day of the week any items left go for 60 cents. Some of the contents of boxes are identifiable and others you have to bust open to find out whats in there. I personally like $1.60 day. There are lots of clothes and many are new with tags. Its cheaper than going to Goodwill. I hadnt been in a few years but recently learned that thete was now a location near me. I found a really nice toilet plumbing kit for my bathroom. At $5.50 , that was a bargain and something I really couldnt afford to buy at full price. Been having lots of neck pain and had several pillows on my Amazon wishlist. Ive actually bought 6 pillows over two weeks on $1.60 day. Problem with paying full price is that you never know what will actually work for your comfort. I need my kitchen faucet replaced .Thats definitely not in my budget either. But maybe tomorrow the second day of the sale will bless me with something. These are huge stores with a section blocked off. They have huge tables with boxes galore. Its better than Christmas.

These are the stores that buy giant boxes of returns from Amazon and let you pick through them. Depending on the day of the week, everything is one set price per item.
There was one of these in Jersey City on the corner of JFK Blvd and one in Ewing that recently closed.
Does anyone know of any others in the state? I've found some crazy stuff there, fun way to kill time.
