I’m currently building a gaming PC and am just curious, for future reference, what CPU I could upgrade to? I’ve heard that the Ryzen 7 7800X3D is one of the best for gaming and I don’t plan to change motherboards, cpu cooler, and ram just for AMD. What’s the Intel equivalent? Also my current CPU is the Intel i7-12700KF.

So I'm making my first PC and wondering what CPU should I get? I'm only this PC strictly for gaming, emulation, slight video editing, and nothing else. I've seen these two CPU's as not top of the line, but high-end, and I want to know which one is best for my needs. Everyone keeps saying Intel for the 7200 memory boost it offers and its more cores and threads. But they also say AMD for its 3D V-cache and cooler efficiency. I'm stuck between the two, so i wanna have a definite answer before I pull the trigger rn. (If you're wondering about prices here, the 7800X3D costs $369.99 and the I7-13700K is $364.99) Thanks!

I'm speccing up my first custom PC. It'll be 75% for gaming and 25% other stuff (nothing mega-demanding).

It seems like the 7800X3D is the obvious choice (especially with Intel's 13/14-gen woes). But I just want to be confident it's up to all the non-gaming use I can foresee. Which Intel chip would it be nearest equivalent to for productivity? As long as it's at least, say, an i5-12600, I'm sure that will be enough for my needs.

Pairing it with probably a GTX 4070 super - though I haven't ruled out the RX 7900 GRE - and 32GB of DDR5 5600 memory. Likely to use a B650 board to keep costs reasonable.
