How to use If function with Or & And function.
The thing to remember is that Excel functions are like maths equations in that they are calculated from the inside out. So always think about what is going on inside the most brackets as you work outwards. For example this: =IF(AND(A1="A", OR(B1="B", C1="C")), 1, 0) Will be 1 if A1 is A, and either B1 is B or C1 is C, because the OR is calculated first and then the result of that is considered for the outer AND. Whereas this: =IF(OR(A1="A", AND(B1="B", C1="C")), 1, 0) Will instead be 1 if either A1 is A, or both B1 and C1 are B and C respectively; again the inner function is computed first, and then the result is fed out into the outer function. What use is the AND function?
AND evaluates each section and expects a True or False result. What your formula is doing is simply returning A1 and B1 - and Excel will treat any non-zero number as "True" and only return 0 as false. If there are no values then you get an error because nothing is evaluated. More on reddit.com
