So I've been serious about woodworking for about 2 years now. I've slowly been adding tools and learning to do things with the tools have. I also watch a lot of woodworking videos. There are a ton of videos (sped up) of people building things on Facebook. It finally dawned on me they were sanding their projects using angle grinders. I had bought an angle grinder years ago for a project and then never used it again. So I picked up some sanding discs and tried it on a refinishing project. Worked great! Why do I never hear anyone talk about this way of sanding? I've done a bunch of research in the last 2 years and and never heard it mentioned. How about it Redditors, who uses an angle grinder for sanding?
Hello Tool fiends.
I need to do a bit of sanding for a couple of wood working projects. I am a sparky in Australia and already own about 10 skins for the 18V makita range.
I am wondering if I am better off getting a sanding pad attachment for the angle grinder I already own, or if I should fork out the money for an orbital sander? I would get a corded one as I don't need to use it often or outside the home.
I have an oscillating multi tool which I have used for sanding but it's a bit too slow for what I need.
Main question is angle grinder hook and loop sanding pads ( would cost me around 50 Au$) or corded orbital sander ( maybe 150Au$ with the discs) for small woodworking projects.
