Apple QuickTake 150
Slightly improved version of the Apple QuickTake 100. Announced 1997-05. The differences to it's predecessor were, a close-up lens, a lower price of $700, an interface kit for IBM PC computers and a better compression so the QT 150 could store 16 images in full resolution instead of 8.

r/VintageApple on Reddit: How to use Apple QuickTake 150?
April 2, 2024 -

Hello everyone,

I am new to the topic of old Apple things, so I want to learn how to use an Apple Quicktake 150 that I found without cables, or anything, I currently have a white macbook 1.1 and a clamshell ibook with mac os 10.3.9.

I tried to install mac os 9.2.2 from macintoshrepository but I had errors when installing it since apparently I need the installation cd, which is impossible to get where I live.

Does anyone know the type of cable I should use, and how to use the software correctly?

Greetings to all.

The only way to use that camera is with a vintage mac with a serial port (and a serial cable obviously). A machine with USB ports is of no use. Even if you have a USB to serial adapter. Usually you have to use 7.5.5. Something like a PB1400 or PB500 series works best. You might be able to get the QuickTake software working on a G3 Wallstreet if you run the original 8.1 OS but I wouldn't guarantee it. Really it's not worth the bother. The photos will be horrible by today's standards. http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/quicktake-software http://macintoshgarden.org/forum/quicktake-requires-more-system-memory Here's a message I left years ago on MacGarden. Looks like I got it running on my Wallstreet. So a 1998 Wallstreet or Beige G3 would be required. Those are the last two Macs with built in serial ports. Hi, Tried QT100 on my Pismo under 9.2.2 - no go - same error as you. However it opens fine under both 8.6 and 9.2.2 with my G3 Wallstreet (384MB RAM). So I wonder if the problem is the lack of a true internal serial port on the Lombard.

This accessory runs best under system 7 as that is when the software was developed for. You need an apple serial cable (din 9 pin) not an rs-232 pc type cable. Assuming the camera does work it takes about 24 pictures in very low resolution and with poor color palette compared to anything you are used to today. Check out some on line videos to see what output is like from a working QuickTake before spending money to try and get this working.
