I bought an Apple TV gen 3 the other day not knowing a thing about it. Come to find there is no App Store, more importantly no YouTube. Is there any way to jail break an Apple TV gen 3 in 2023?

Yes, blackb0x. However if you have an original TV 3 (A1427 on the bottom) you'll also need an Arduino Uno USB Host Shield, soldering iron, and some solder

Honestly 3rd gen and down are obsolete now I do not recommend getting one. The 4th gen is ok but since apple stops updating the old ones so much you might as well get a 5th 64gb brand new on Amazon is like 180$ I have one my self and it’s so worth it. I wanna say about 95% of the apps don’t work on 3rd gen and down and the 4th gen is very close to the day Apple stops supporting it

September 8, 2023[Help] Jailbreaking the Apple TV 3 (A1469)
So the problem you were having is because the apple tv boots into recovery mode if it restarts with the usb cable plugged in (nothing to do with blackb0x) so I've made an unreleased change to blackb0x where it disables the usb port during first boot to avoid this. Jailbreak post-installation for upgrades/kodi/etc happens with a special launchdaemon currently and I plan on releasing a version with a package manager to make it easier/more reliable. I've also been working on making the jailbreak more useful. I've created an IDE with an SDK that lets you create/build apps as if you were building tvOS apps. This will allow people to port apps, games, emulators, tweaks etc. Hopefully bringing more life back to atv3. I'm hoping to make time to look into solutions for Youtube and Kodi as well.
