I’ve been reading about it from a few days and still don’t have clear answer: is it worth to buy 3gen now?
What still works on it? Netflix, YouTube?
What is a real performance?
I’ve got few iOS devices around: iPhones with newest iOS, iPad with iOS 12.5, MacBook with Catalina
What I wanted to do is avoiding plug-in computer to my not smart TV to watch anything from streaming like Netflix, Amazon, Disney etc. At least by mirroring screen from iPad…

Disney plus and YouTube are not supported by the third gen anymore. As time goes on other services are likely going to start pulling support for the third gen. If you don’t want to break the bank I’d get the 4th gen. You can even get it used and you’ll be good to go for streaming and Airplay. Even light gaming works on there.

Speaking as someone who has a third gen in my kitchen for secondary viewing, kids stuff during breakfast, etc. and an original 4K as a main screen, do NOT get the third. Yes it can airplay, play tv+ content and some others (Hulu, prime), but it crashes and resets a lot when dealing with more modern video. I’m not sure if it just can’t keep up with the higher bitrates or what, but I can pretty much guarantee one unexpected reboot mid-playback on any tv+ item and any newer prime video. Even the original fourth gen (HD) is probably a better pick, but you may as well get the 4K.
