I love my shokz - I have no trouble hearing music or audio books and haven’t had any issues with sweat. Battery life is great and they’re very comfortable. My partner also uses them for biking and is happy with them. If you can stand to wait, holiday sales are coming up and I’m sure everything you’re considering will have some sort of deal going. How do bone conduction headphones work?
Bone conduction headphones take advantage of the fact that sound is simply vibrations, directing them into the bones in your head. · These headphones use plates that sit against the cheekbones to deliver sound vibrations through the jaw and skull bone directly into the cochlea. They leave the ear canal open, which allows outside sound to still get in. · Unlike traditional headphones, bone conduction headphones allow the user to hear what’s happening in their surroundings. This makes this style of headphones a great choice for outside activities where hearing oncoming vehicles or bikes can save

r/running on Reddit: Bone conducting headphones for running - Philips or Shokz?
October 25, 2023 -

Trying to decide between the Philips TAA6606 and Shokz Openrun headphones to entertain me while running. Have no experience with bone conducting headphones, so any input is appreciated.

Currently, the Philips are 90 USD and Shokz 125 USD. I'm looking to use them mainly for podcasts while running - I own a pair of Airpods Pro, but I'd prefer to hear my surroundings without having to use hear through.

Are the Shokz worth the extra 30-35 USD? I mean, I like their design a lot more than the Philips , but I won't be looking at them while running and USB-C for charging seems nice (the Philips). The Shokz apparently have a little better sound, but again, never tried bone conducting before.

Edit: there’s far too many to reply individually, but I think I’ll go with what a vast majority tell me actually works - Shokz. Black Friday deals haven’t been significant these last years, so will just get a pair soon as possible!

Thank you everyone for your answers 😊

r/running on Reddit: Open Ear Air vs Bone conduction?
October 15, 2024 -

Hello to every runners!

I was wondering what is better to wear when running - air vs bone conduction. I am well aware of how both technology works, but in terms of running, what is a better option? I like to run outside and I have the Galaxy Buds Pro; however, I am starting to realize that it can be dangerous without awareness of the surrounding. So, it would be nice what is more comfortable to wear (especially with someone who wears glasses) and which one can provide better awareness to the surroundings and lastly can you recommend me a good budget friendly earphones?

Edit: thank you everyone for your suggestions! I read them all and has helped a ton!

Shokz OpenRun Pro bone conduction headphones review - Women's Running
Shokz OpenRun Pro
A quick, and very basic science lesson about bone conduction: instead of sitting over the ear, these headphones fit around the outside of the ear. They make contact with bones in the head and jaw which transmit the music directly to the inner ear using vibrations. This means that the music is still contained to your personal space, but that you can also hear ambient sound through your ears. This is especially good for runners... The OpenRun Pro are said to be the best bone conduction headphones on the market. We test them out to see if they live up to the hype. (Spoiler, they do!)
