I just installed a new ASUS motherboard and AMD CPU to my existing PC and updated the BIOS to the latest version 3057. My hard drives (one of which has Windows installed and both were working fine with my old motherboard) are not showing up on the boot priority list but are recognized by the BIOS. I have tried going into the advanced settings and enabling the Boot\CSM setting but it is greyed out and will not let me toggle it. Has anyone else run into this problem? Or have any idea how to get it to boot from my hard drive? I of course did not back anything up and would prefer not to wipe the hard drive and do a fresh install.

Hi everyone,
I ran into an issue where my brand new PC just wouldn't boot. As troubleshooting it was somewhat of a pain in the ass and I could have fixed it faster, I'd like to share my experience so hopefully it can help someone else save some effort.
Please note that this fix most likely applies to a wide range of ASUS motherboards, so if you are experiencing the symptoms below, read on.
Issue/Symptoms:
-
PC turns on
-
Display shows HDMI or DisplayPort
-
USB devices don't power up
-
All fans spin
-
RGB turns on
Does this sound familiar? First of all, don't panic. It's (almost definitely) not your fault, you can fix this, you're going to be okay.
TL;DR: Is your PC brand new and more specifically and you are a 100% positive everything is connected as it should be? Use a BIOS flashback as outlined here.
What I tried and how I fixed it:
-
Doublechecked all cables being properly attached.
-
I replaced my GPU and PSU with a spare, no difference. Please note that the PSU can ALSO cause these problems, but before you replace that, read on to point 8!!!
-
Confirmed the GPUs and PSUs to be working by testing in another PC case.
-
Tried another GPU slot on the B650-plus mobo.
-
Moved the RAM to another slot.
-
I unplugged everything that belongs to the front panel of my PC case (only the USB connectors, I left the power and reset switch connected).
-
Sixth, removed my SSD and NVMe disks.
-
It occured to me that my power button was blinking every 2 seconds I wasn't used to this because in the past I was used to motherboard bleeps, or a built-in display on the motherboard that shows codes. Turns out that there's a section on the ASUS website found here which covers the following symptoms:
-
Power light blinks quickly 4x per sec (possible RAM issue)
-
Power light blinks 2 sec on, 2 sec off (possible GPU issue)
-
Power light blinks 4 sec on, 4 sec off (possible disk issue)
-
-
Reset my BIOS using the instructions on this page.
-
Reinstalled my disks.
-
Finally, I used the BIOS flashback option as described here. The explanation is really good and you, dear reader, can definitely do this.
-
After this, the power light was blinking 4 times, indicating a disk issue. I removed my disks and voila, the screen finally turned on and I got into the BIOS. I reconnected the SSD's SATA cable to another SATA port and now everything worked as intended.
In short:
-
The default BIOS on this motherboard sucks $#@! and had to be updated using option 11 above.
-
The brand new, new generation motherboard came with a faulty SATA port.
-
No need to replace any parts (other than arguably the motherboard itself).
SPECS:
For completeness sake, here are my hardware specs that experienced this issue:
motherboard: ASUS Prime B650-Plus
CPU: AMD7600x
RAM: 16GB DDR5 Kingston Fury Beast
GPU: Gigabyte 3080 Vision OC
Disks: Kingston UV 480GB SSD, Samsung 1TB NVMe disk
My Asus Prime z390-p doesn’t recognise the freshly installed windows on my crucial 2tb 3.0 2280 m.2 ssd.. It boots in to my old Samsung 970 with windows still on it. I can Format the ssd and use it that way but it doesn’t let me use the actual windows on it. I also tried to clone windows on to the new SSD and it says that the drive is incompatible. Pls help
Specifications:
-
ASUS Z170-E motherboard (MB drivers link)
-
i7-6700K
-
Windows 10 64-bit
I just finished putting my computer together. I got all the components snug and updated my drivers. The problem I'm having now is, for some reason, whenever I boot up the computer is sent straight to the BIOS and not the actual operating system.
Attempted so far:
I've tried messing around with the options and changing things around but nothing changed the boot up behavior.
-
Made the SSD with OS installed on it the #1 boot priority
-
Updated BIOS to latest I made sure the boot option priority was listed as the drive with my OS installed on it but that doesn't change anything.
-
Updated Chipset
Album of my settings. Will be updating on this album. If more information is needed please let me know as I'll provide them as quick as possible.
